Limitless might be a better done story, though. It had enough "popcorn" to make it enjoyable, and it didnt go to the extremes that Lucy did, which makes it much more believable.

But if you looking for a no-holds-barred movie that wants to go to a similar place as Childhoods End, Lucy is that version of the same story.

Dunno exactly what extremes Lucy went too. As I said, took a great concept and turned it into a piece of fluff. The movie was very pretty with nice action scenes. Scarlett was great and Freeman did his usual professional job.
From what I have read, the director and studio execs differed greatly on what they wanted the movie to be. The execs wanted the movie to be a summer blockbuster...."popcorn movie". The director had a different vision. The director lost the battle and massive edits were made. It shows.

I see how there was a bit of an identity crisis with the movie. And there were some plot holes as well. But I did like ...

That it had time travel, but not too heavy, and it made sense. Further, I think that he became God (not a god, but God) and actually gave intelligence to the original Lucy.

Maybe it wasnt executed perfectly, and maybe I enjoyed the movie BECAUSE I had such low expectations, but I actually liked where it went and that it avoided some problems that normally are associated with some of the choices they made.

And I'm probably a bit too hard on it because I had high expectations. That's the way it goes sometimes. I will say watching Scarlett Johansson kick the shit out of everyone is always fun.

The Departed is my second favorite movie of all time. When I'm drunk I like to say "Are you a cop???" in a Boston accent to myself until I pass out.

That constitutes my fun most Friday nights

I was thinking about heading to the pub in town on Saturday night, but sat in the condo and drank cider while watching the flick, instead. I am becoming a lazy, isolated fuck in my old age. Cider instead of beer because my body decided it doesn't like hops and makes me suffer if I drink two or more brewskies...I figure it must be hops because I can drink other booze and am not allergic to any grains...?
What is your #1 flick? I have probably watched No Country For Old Men 4-5 times in the last year alone, did not see it when it came out because I thought the name was stupid and then decided it was worth $5 to pick it out of a WalMart bin a couple of years ago. I was mesmerized within a few minutes of putting it on and it inspired to read a small stack of Cormac McCarthy novels, which were all very good.

I thought it sucked. The little brother had me laughing a bit.

lulz. Maybe you should lower yer expectations a bit. I don't think anyone ever meant for it to be an Academy Award-winner er' nothing.

I liked it. I thought Hemsworth was great in it. The penis scene was great. Charlie Day was funny.

I also like the intakes and outtakes.

I thought it was an okay movie but I never really thought too highly of it because there were too many parallels between it and Lucky Number Slevin which came out earlier in the same year. It felt like the twists were too similar with a different cast.

It certainly could have been better.

The whole chinese gangster part to it while great for getting the film started was useless at the end.

Yeah I thought it was a decent enough movie. I had no expectations and reviews helped that even more but I found it pretty enjoyable. Not gonna call it a good movie or recommend it to people. But wasn't a waste of time for me at all.

Absolutely. It's like they couldn't decide what direction they wanted to take so they tried to cover all the bases.

just curious - why are we doing spoiler things on a two year old movie, anyway? :noidea:

If this were a "Lucy" thread, than go at it. But the audience of this thread is all movie-goers. I dont think there is a valid expectation that everyone has seen mid-level movies.

Talking about Force Awakens, IMHO, is beyond spoilery because it was such a huge movie. Lucy, OTOH, was a moderate success at best.

Bah. I'm beginning to hate that button, especially on threads like Walking Dead. It's like having a little clique that revels in sharing secrets. It has its uses for sure, but when it starts getting used on every other post it's pretty irritating.

This exactly. Expected some chuckles. Got some, with a couple real laughs.

I tried to get a Comic-related thread going, but no one else ever posted, so the spoilers were the best (if completely imperfect) solution. The alternative to the spoiler tag is for everyone to talk about the comics in the open, and that would piss too many people off (understandably).
