Lucy

Holy shit! That was NOT what I expected. This move was horribly marketed. It was nothing like what the ads made it out to be.

I am not sure if I liked it or not yet. It was certainly well done, though. Serious thought went into putting it together.

I think I would give it about a 7.5/10, but I am kinda on my heals regarding the flick, so that may change drastically in the coming days.

Hmmm maybe I will check it out. I have it but never watched it for whatever reason

I thought Lucy was OK. Certainly not as mailed in as some of Besson's efforts lately. But not a lot to keep it my mind as one of the best from that year.

Problem I have with any of these 'the computer or the person is SUUUUUPER smart' movies, is how does the computer figure in the human element? Impossible to do.

This was handled specifically. The Persian cop was kept around just to help remind her of humanity. She had lost all desire, all fear, all happiness. In her omnipotence, she had become single minded - get her consciousness into some kind of computer or something so she could become immortal.

Further, I think we were supposed to surmise that she IS God. Not that she became A god. She visited THE Lucy and gave her the spark of intelligence. She basically re-created man in our own image.

Just watched Aronofsky's The Fountain for about the 15th time. I love this film. Probably my 2nd favorite movie of all time. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is and will always be #1.

Hugh Jackman is really good in this. If you haven't seen it it's a strange love story, taking place at 3 different times at once, kind of. The more you see it the more you start to figure out, and I think I've almost pieced it all together.

I love how they were able to blend history, fantasy, drama, and sci-fi into one cohesive film. Can't forget Clint Mansell and the Kronos Quartet doing the score. It's incredible.

Check it out if you get the chance, and watch it a couple times.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2015)

Pretty entertaining movie. Doesn't have the big allure of a strong lead character, but it still delivered all the entertainment values. Plot was pretty badass, and I loved the score. Would definitely watch again.

7.5/10

Right, we can drill down into the meaning of self determination if we want to. Unless we're all on rails in God's cosmic computer game, then self determination means that we can make choices that God won't foresee.

Anyway, I'm conflating a bunch of other movies that basically do this same thing, and it's a pet peeve of mine. I'd have to watch Lucy over again to see if it was an egregious offender. (probably wasn't)

The worst was that omnipotent computer movie with Shia Lebouf, 'Eagle Eye,' where the computer wasn't just smart, it was MAGIC.

Go left now! (how does the computer figure in the human error element of the thousands of people running screaming and crashing cars all around him?)

I find time travel stories/movies to be bad for this too, there's no consistent internal logic. It's a writers get out of jail free card. But some try harder than others. So far 13 Monkeys has done an okay job, imo.

I love you man, but no. Just no. Heh. (having said that I'm A-OK with you liking it)

I totally agree with just about everything you said here. I just didn't get any if that from this movie. The premise is admittedly far fetched, but the execution was very well done, IMHO.

I'll watch it on Putlocker and watch more carefully. I remember thinking, wow, great visuals when I saw it in the theater, but I may be to borrow a Bushism, misremembering.

It may also be that I was so surprised by what it was that I am assigning too much to it. Certainly possible.

Yeah. The whole idea of "If we could only use more than 10% of our brain, who knows what's possible" is most definitely far-fetched but Lucy (and Limitless) have a lot of fun with it and do a good job imo. Some of the dead-pan responses by Johannsson as her mind expanded were pretty funny.

i am actually OK with that aspect of the story. It is SciFi, after all, so there has to be an accepted level of "what if". My "far-fetched" complaint is that it is a simple drug that caused her Ascension to God. The genie is out of the bottle. What is to prevent the entire species to ascend at this point? All it would have taken was a throw away comment from her to the Freeman character about her having some ultra-rare mutation that combined with the drug to allow her to react that way. Instead, it was established with the first test subject that her reaction is at least somewhat the norm.

Curse of Chucky. It was better than the last couple of movies in the series, mainly because this one wasn't played for comedy like those two were. I did watch the alternate ending for the unrated edition on Youtube and definitely enjoyed that scene.

Ant-Man - I had very low expectations for it. Ant-Man for the most part met them. The end had us laughing. The only bright side.

I Spit On Your Grave
I Spit On Your Grave 2
I Spit On Your Grave 3

I didn't watch 1 & 2 from beginning to end. The cause (r@pe) outrages me but the effect (brutal revenge), I truly believe in. So I fast forwarded to the revenge.

I watched all of 3 and it was good. I really liked Marla.

Mud (20113)

My score: 8.5/10

I kept hearing about it lately so I decided to check it out. It's at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It's a nice coming of age tale but a little over-hyped compared to some of the glowing reviews it got. Good but not great.

I actually thought it was quite smart for Cena to take that role. For what he has shown in the past, that actually allowed him to act a bit, and get out of his stereotype.

I actually thought he was rather funny.
