I tried to get a Comic-related thread going, but no one else ever posted, so the spoilers were the best (if completely imperfect) solution. The alternative to the spoiler tag is for everyone to talk about the comics in the open, and that would piss too many people off (understandably).

I know, I don't mean to put it on you. And the alternative would probably be more irritating.

Two recent viewings.

One Flew Over A Cuckoo's Nest - Top drawer. When I first saw that film I actually thought that many of the crazies were real. Now you now them as Louie De Palma, Reverend Jim, etc. Amazing story.

84 Charing Cross Road - Sort of a movie about letter writing pen pals that started out as one woman's hunt for rare books. Anne Bancroft, Judi Dench, Anthony Hopkins, Mercedes Ruehl. I love Bancroft (Mrs Robinson always to me...), she loves her smokes in this film and drinks like a pissed fish to boot.

I just watched Cuckoo's Nest again over a few nights of running recently (to keep from falling off the treadmill in boredom), and it is truly a classic. Did you recognize B-Billy B-Bib-b-bit as Grima Wormtongue from LOTR?? Cheswick also had a fairly big role in "Shakes The Clown" as well as bit roles all through the '70s and '80s.

Another Nicholson flick from the era I need to get my hands on is "Five Easy Pieces", loved it when I first saw it but it has probably been 20 years.

You mean Doc from Deadwood? But of course.

As I watched I just wanted to reach inside the screen and smack Ratched.. What a bitch....

I just watch OFOTCN a few weeks back for the first time in 20+ years. Still stands up today. Amazing the Hollywood has not tried a remake already.

Blood Work- Clint Eastwood acted, directed film based off the Michael Connely book by the same name. Maybe it is only because of how much I loved the book but the movie felt very shallow, rushed, half baked. Not to mention they completely gutted everything that makes Connely's books great, not to mention
even going as far as changing the killer
truly ruined the experience. I give it a 5 out of 10 for turning a truly great story into a run in the mill, mediocre murder mystery

Oh man, those therapy/torture sessions in which she systematically humiliates and emasculates the men are just so hard to watch...but totally essential to develop an understanding of her character. Fantastic performance by Fletcher.

Yeah, they could have some good looking lightweight like Taylor Lautner play Mac, turn him into a misunderstood nice guy, and have him fall in love with Nurse Ratched (Selena Gomez) at the end as Chief overcomes his demons with her help and is elected the first Native American US President.

I liked the bit where he shoots the shit out of a green Gen II Taurus SHO, just like I used to own.....

But not a lot else.

It is so frustrating to see such a great book torn into shit like this one was. It came off as a B film to me, and Jeff Daniels was perfectly cast IF it was done like the books. But for this movie, it felt poorly done.

Was that the one with the small V8?
Think we may have talked about this before, I was designing stuff for Ford at the time and was told by one of their engineers to never buy one of them...but you said you were very happy with it, IIRC.

Nope the 1st Gen engine, the 3 L Yamaha V6.

I never liked the Gen III with the 3.4 L V8.

A bunch there that were shit first time out, why bother doing over?

But why would anybody want to re-do Predator? So wrong..... Or Ben Hur? Gonna CGI the shit out of it....
Exactly why I hate Hollywood. It is all about using name brand recognition to force feed you a half-baked shit pie that entices you purely because it says Chocolate Pie on the Box. Yes it says chocolate, but you know whatever is underneath can't be good.

OK, the Ford guys we worked with told us privately that the whole SHO V8 program was a clusterfuck and to avoid the vehicle. Some higher up mandated a V8 to "compete" and they were having a horrible time stuffing one in the Taurus...they said airflow was so restricted at the time (this was pre-production) that it was less powerful than the smaller V6 it was replacing. I believe that engine more or less killed the SHO for about a decade.

That it did.
