Canada invoked it's 'War Measures Act' during a terrorist crisis, and then immediately recinded the emergency powers.

I had just started Grade 10 in Sept. Had a brand new Raleigh 10 speed, one of only 3 in our town at the time.

I remember riding my bike along on the day after Trudeau invoked The Act and when an RCMP car cruised past, and me being young and stupid (now I'm old and stupid), I yelled "Vive le Quebec libre!!" at the squad car.

He did a quick U-turn and had a long chat with me about being stupid......

Can't recall when it was "turned off" exactly but things were weird for a while. Even in BC.

I used the spoiler tag just to be safe. I don't think this is too spoilery, though...

due to a series of high collateral damage events (New York in Avengers, Sokovia in Ultron, a few others), the UN wants to take control of all "super heroes" like the Avengers. Stark is still distraught with guilt over Sokovia so he is game for handing the primary decision making over to the gov. Cap wants the autonomy to do what is needed when it is needed and does not want to be forced to do things he does not believe in.

The problem I had with the setup is that most of the damage was caused by the villains themselves, not the heros. How can they be blamed for the damage done in NY when it was the Chitauri shooting and blowing things up and crashing into buildings with those big robots. It wasn't the Avengers' plan to lift up Sokovia. I guess you can argue by extension because Stark created Ultron, but that wasn't the point being made. I guess bringing the helicarriers down was Rogers' idea, and what happened with Scarlet Witch you can pin on them. But most of the incidents claimed its hard to say it was them that caused it. Ironically, they didn't cite S. Africa when Hulk and Stark in the Hulkbuster were tearing apart the city. That would have been a better example.

Basically, politics. Politicians, and for the most part, the populous in general, do not look at things too carefully. They see these events, and the one constant was that the Avengers were there. Logic does not apply.

Sokovia and South Africa are clear exceptions where the Avengers can absolutely, 100% be blamed.

Of course. I am not trying to say this is the first movie to ever actually look at a legit topic. But this asked the question with really fun wrapping, which rarely, if ever happens. You typically either get guts OR fluff. Rarely both. This one had a lot of fluff (that is what I want from my CB movies, afterall), but it was not devoid of guts.

As for the airport fight...

Of course they were play fighting. They even addressed that in the movie at the time. These are family members fighting. Not mortal enemies. They still know each other's families. They still break bread with each other. They still love each other. They are just stuck in a situation where they disagree with each other.

Right, I get that, but that didn't ring true for me. Why go through the bother then? There's nobody watching.

And you read too much into my response, I know you weren't saying it was the first one. :) Tone is tough. Kinda' ironic given the disucssion.

Captain America: Civil War. I enjoyed it but yet was disappointed with it at the same time. For me, I still think that Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the best of the MCU movies right now.

Just watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens again. I think that of the seven movies, I'd rank it 3rd right now behind Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith.

Sith ahead of New Hope?

I can understand it ahead of Jedi (I don't agree, but I can understand it), but no way in hell can Sith be rated ahead of New Hope.

I was so disappointed in the prequels I haven't watched them more than once in their entirety. Was revenge of the sith the one with Yoda's saber fight?

Went to see ""Money Monster"" Friday. Actually pretty good. I wasn't expecting a great all time classic, but I was pleasantly surprised. The movie held my attention, Clooney was a little over the top, but Jodie Foster directed it and she seemed to trying to keep the pace solid. Julia Roberts did an excellent job as the program director.

Basically a kick in the nutz to Wall Street.

I just can't get into New Hope as much as everyone else. I thought that Sith was a more entertaining movie from beginning to end. I have New Hope 4th in my rankings.

I think it was Attack of the Clones where that happened. Sith was Mace Windu's light saber fight.

Saw Bridge of Spies on Netflix. Solid movie, surprisingly good lines delivered throughout the movie. Definitely light on action and the plot might be a little on the simple side for a movie about espionage but that tends to happen when you try to loosely base it on real events. Its a movie that shows the value of the constitution and the mindset of the cold war but it all seems so very distant in regards with how we view espionage today and America's extrajudicial use of drones and strikes. It all seems like a very distant world yet certainly it does show that all great men want to avoid war at all costs.

FINALLY watched The Matrix.
It was enjoyable, but I just could not take Keanu Reeves seriously as an intelligent person. The guy just has such a naturally goofy look and has been so good at playing morons in the past (I would even put his character in My Own Private Idaho in that slot).
The ending was also a bit clichéd and did not really satisfy me. Still worth watching.

I kept thinking about a guy who ran one of the offices at a previous company I worked for, I would see him 2-3 times a year at field training sessions and he had a serious man-child/ADHD air about him. A bunch of us went out for dinner and he talked about The Matrix movies incessantly, to the point of people just trying to get away from him. He suddenly asked me very earnestly which of the series was my favorite, and I confessed that I had not seen any of them. He gave me a long look of disbelief and horror, then walked away and never spoke to me again.
That was a GOOD thing...

I quite liked the first 2.

The 3rd was a bit too much for me.

I liked the movie.
This is my take on it also.

Daredevil the Directors Cut. This was way better than I remember it being when I watched it when it first came out.

Are we talking the Affleck disaster I so dearly wanted to like? What made it better?

From what I remember, I believe that it was more violent, it added more backstory from when he was a kid and Elektra wasn't as big of a part of the movie. It's around 30 minutes longer give or take. I picked it up in the $5 bin at Best Buy. It's a movie that is far from being great but it's still way better than the original cut. It's at least worth checking out at some point in my opinion.

Steve Jobs. 8/10. Not bad at delving into the personal life of jobs. Also I felt Seth Rogen (who I didn't even know was in the movie) killed it. Rogen has become an actor that can play a variety of roles. He's becoming a true A-List actor.

What is that like the 3rd Steve Jobs movie since he died?
