I did notice that. I think that the other people in their cars were either used to seeing that sort of thing every day in Juarez, or they were smart enough to not get out of their cars after seeing what happened to the hitmen; probably a bit of both. At the end of that scene, you can hear someone from the extraction team say that this would be on every front page in America; someone else commented that it wouldn't make the front pages in El Paso.

Exactly. That was the point of the whole movie.

I don't get why people thought it was boring at all. Not enough exposition? One of the most tense movies I've seen in ages, since you had no real idea how it would play out. Soooo many movies like this you know when you're still at the top of your popcorn who is going to win.

I'll echo your 9/10

Saw Cloverfield Lane Monday night. Better than average I thought. I'm not much of a horror guy, but it was interesting. 6.5

I think folks were expecting more scenes like the border shoot-out. You make a great point about the tension that builds up throughout the movie. I never got the sense that it was a movie for those who were easily entertained; I thought it was exactly the opposite. There were bits and pieces of action, but it seemed more focused on character development, and establishing the fact that Emily Blunt's character was in waaay over her head from the start. As Benicio Del Toro's character says in the film, it's a land of wolves and Emily Blunt's character was not a wolf.

Burnt

The wife picked it. Not horrible, not awesome. 6/10, worth the $1.50 and 2 hours.

I dont go to theaters, But Starz had the premier of Rudderless, a film about the father of a boy that perpetrated one of the common school shootings. He is an advertising guy that does the music for the ads, the son was alone and not paid much attention to. So two years later the father is a lowly house painter living on a boat, the mother drops off a box of CD's and a song book saying music was always their thing. It took her the two years to decide to sell the house and go thru his room The father ends up learning to play the sons songs and meets kids along the way and form a band. Ends up learning who his son was that he did not pay enough attention to.

Pretty decent, kind of mumford sounding music, but interesting for a low buck film.

So weird. I saw this movie, but I have no recollection of when or where. Maybe it was on Netflix??

Ive been binge watching movies lately.

The Martian 7.5/10 - similar to Cast Away in terms of character isolation. Damon is good.

Edge of Tomorrow 9/10 - Much better than I expected. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt work well together and by the end of the movie I wanted to bang Blunt's brains out.

Bridge of Spies 8.5/10 - Lived up to the hype, another classic Tom Hanks performance.

Mad Max Fury Road 6.5/10 - Amazing special effects, story line drags out.

Good movie, the book really goes into the details and is really good.

Ditto and DITTO!

Tom Cruise has made a comeback in my eyes with some interesting science fiction films since Minority Report.

Bridge of Spies 8.5/10 - Lived up to the hype, another classic Tom Hanks performance.

It's on my rental list.

Mad Max Fury Road 6.5/10 - Amazing special effects, story line drags out.

Very good non-stop action. They could have done more with setting but it was fun.

Sicario (2015)

Badass film. Really well done too. Wasn't exactly impressed with Emily Blunt's performance, but she didn't bother me. Loved the "Medellín" twist. Kind of had a feeling something strange was going on, but the climax & ending still delivered.

The Revenant (2015)

The cinematography of this movie blew me away. Absolutely amazing. They really captured the essence of the era, and brought it to life in a more personal way. Almost as if you were living it. Stellar performances all around. That Glass dude though, he's one hell of a badass!

The Hateful Eight (2015)

Had the look & feel of Tarantino's work, but lacked some of the luster. Not sure what it was, the story or otherwise, but I wasn't as big a fan of it as I usually am with his films. The acting was great though. I'm a big fan of Walton Goggins. A lot more humor in this film than I'm used to with Tarantino, but it worked.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015)

Very witty & clever movie. Wasn't expecting a lot since I hadn't heard much about it, but actually found it very entertaining. It's like Sherlock Holmes meets James Bond. Another great Guy Ritchie film to add to his resumé!

Fucking great movies. I saw both in theaters and gave both 4.5/5 stars (Revenant is better though, IMO)

5th Wave

Absolute crap. The ending was worthless. It had absolutely zero resolution. Everyone who "died" (both good guys and bad guys), did so off screen, so you cant even count on them actually being dead.

When the "bad-assed female" showed up, all I wanted to say was "Lighten up, Francis". If any of the characters actually said that, the movie MAY have been salvaged.

Too many other problems with the movie to bother listing here.

I saw Legend. It probably was a good book but just an awful, awful version of goodfellas with a couple of good scenes from Hardy

Hardy was great and I love mob movies. The movie suffered from 3 issues, imo.

1. The actress playing Frances was about 10 years too old to be playing the part. This might seem like a petty complaint but the entire optics of the movie changes if Hardy is courting a teenager. Her youth is essential to her part in the movie and she looked 25-30 and not 16-17.

2. The best scenes in the movie were ones that had both Tom Hardy characters. Its hard to show strong bonds in a movie when there is only one character facing the screen at once. There is something to be said about 2 different characters reacting to each other in real time.

3.
Frances as a POV character was done wrong. Her lines were bad, her narration was bad and her character didn't have enough focus beyond 'my life sucks' and that doesn't make for a good movie. Her narration was the opposite of Morgan Freeman: weak, poor timing and not worth listening to. The line where she says 'I bet you thought I was going to make it because I'm narrating' was all sorts of done wrong. If you're going to do Goodfellas, have her saying that to the screen while she is popping the pills. I just wasn't a fan of how they handled Frances' character
