The 5th Wave (2016)

The premise & cgi were pretty cool, but it got a little silly. Children armies? Sleeper agents? Not to mention it went from sci-fi thriller to chick flick about an hour into the movie.

Yep I did.
He wins the revenge battle, and that's it. You're left to decide whether he lives or dies himself. He's still breathing as the credits roll. I guess that could be taken as 'ambiguous,' but I don't see it that way. He was living to get revenge for his son, and he did that. Whether he lives beyond that point is kinda' irrelevant, imo.

I could see where you'd disagree though.
I get what you are saying but I still think its stupid. This isn't Birdman, which I did not really love but I respected it for what it was. This is a clear cut story, why leave anything open to interpretation, its annoying. If the whole movie is a bit complex or confusing I get it, but this wasn't. Not really an Alajandro fan.

I was not a huge fan of the movie, as I said when I first saw it, but how was the ending vague? What did you want answered?

I am on my cell and can't do the spoiler deal so I'm not wanting to ruin it. But if I have to question whether or not he lived it bothers me.

Saw Capote.

Great acting. Not sure if this movie is more or less satisfying if you haven't seen or read In Cold Blood but I enjoy the narrow focus of the film. It really allows the actors to take center stage and the acting is excellent. I feel like no one today cares someone who 'goes out the back door instead of the front' because its easy to justify the death of a murderer to further your own career. But yeah...great movie

And again, I get that some people want the stuff all tied up for them, have him reminiscing with his grandkids on his front porch in his 90's, or show his grave... but imo, in THIS MOVIE, the ending beyond what they showed is irrelevant. His life is over at that point. He won his revenge, but lost everything in life that meant anything to him.

The world is either indifferent to his (our) fate - these are all the nature scenes, or it's outwardly hostile (bear scene, battle scenes, many scenes of prejudice and hatred).

But either way you take it, his 'life' is over. He's got nothing to live for, even if he physically survives.

So really, great way to end the movie. (again, imo of course)

The Ridiculous 6. It had some funny moments but overall it fell pretty flat. I'd give it 2 out of 5 stars

Catastasis (2015)

It's not the type of movie for everyone and definitely not something you'd want to watch again and again. I have a feeling this is going to end up as the type of movie where this no middle ground; you're probably going to end loving it or hating it.

Overall, I thought the acting was decent and the movie did a good job of grabbing your attention and keeping it all the way through.

Watched Batman vs Superman last night. I didn't hate it but I didn't like it either. To me, it felt like the first half was a complete bore and the second half was way too rushed by trying to cram too much in in a very little amount of time. 5-5.5/10

I saw 10 Cloverfield Lane tonight, and I think it's safe to say I like it better than any movie released last year or so far this year. It's tense and taxing, but that's because it asks some genuinely tense questions and makes you identify with a character in an untenable situation. It's a truly scary movie.

While entertaining, it just felt kinda boring. Angry out of control Batman. Emotionally challenged Superman. Skinny Wonder Woman. Overused Lois Lane. Doomsday looks like shit.

But at least we got cameos of Aquaman, Cyborg, & the Flash...

Are You Here.

I have no idea what the fuck this movie was about. I kept waiting for an actual plot to develop, but then it was over.

BVS 6/10... was hoping for more, but oh well. Not bad, probably would give a 7 if my expectations weren't up for top of the line comic book movies. Quite long, no real happiness or goodness or humor (outside of a few little quips)..

10 Cloverfield 8/10. I really liked the story and the ending. Always enjoy John Goodman and he was great in this. Didn't really overdo the gore which was cool and had a nice twist.

I mean unless Batman is packing oodles of green kryptonite, how the fuck is he supposed to beat Superman?

It was loosely based on a true story.

You could always google the ending:lol:

I'm no fanboy, but I think that's how he beats him in the comics.

A kryptonite arrow er some shit

Kryptonite weaponized smoke/gas bombs, bullets, & the almighty spear...

Batman has them all in the movie.

By the way, Doomsday looks like a combination of Abomination from the Hulk movie, a Ninja Turtle, & a cave troll from LOTR. He looks that bad.

Is that what the nanny calls it?

Edit: Goddammit the spoiler is hiding my joke!

Saw Batkid Begins.

I wasn't familiar with the story and it probably works better if you aren't familiar with it. Basically a "feel good" perfect storm movie although it did briefly touch on a tight rope when it comes to parenting. At what point do you put your child's immediate interests before your child's dreams?

Decent.

How weird. I just watched that last night and was considering posting here about it.

I remember it happening, and it was a strange, out-of-nowhere, big event. This movie was fun telling the story of these people working on a project that just kept getting bigger and bigger and none of them were prepared.

I really liked the movie, understanding it is just a feel-good movie. Good point about the parenting issues, though. Miles wanted to stop at lunch, but they kept going, and they hardly touched on that in the movie.
