I think the difference is that while not many athletic departments have a surplus, there are many football programs that do (and in turn, help subsidize the rest of the AD). UConn's football program runs at a substantial loss.

The brutal travel schedule with the american doesn’t help.

moving to the NBE is supposed to save the university 2m per year just in travel expenses

So it’s bad, but not nearly as bad as it seems.

Why the UConn athletic department’s $41 million deficit might not be quite as bad as it sounds

but it’s still really bad.

Step one is cutting Sports. They are way above the minimum requirements. They need to cut some dead weight

uconn is running at a pretty big deficit.

part of that is because of state politics requiring Them to pay well above market rates to play half their basketball games 30 min from campus.

another big reason schools ADs run at a deficit is title ix. Probably the biggest
UCONN's deficit may be larger, but several of them have some pretty good sized ones as well. No doubt title ix is a factor.

Oh yeah, football and men's basketball usually pay for themselves and for several other programs. Golf ain't going to bring in a lot of revenue.

BTW, I've been shocked at how empty several of the basketball arenas are now that conference play has started.

The game featuring the G5 team in the NY6 really loses its appeal when the G5 team isn't undefeated.

I think they need to add a qualifier to the rule.

If there are no undefeated G5 teams, there is no automatic bid.

Penn State-Alabama or Penn State-Utah would have had much more appeal.

Penn State just won the Cotton Bowl and my opinion of them changed zero.

Boise State and Houston not undefeated and beat P5 teams in NY6

Western Michigan and UCF 2nd undefeated and lost

UCF 1st undefeated and won

Memphis 1 loss and lost

Neat. Doesn’t change the fact it’s tough to get excited about a non undefeated mid major in a NY6 bowl

tells me just because they have losses doesnt mean they cant put in a good game or even win.

I was more looking forward to Memphis vs Penn State than i was UCF vs LSU or Western Michigan vs Wisconsin.

2011.

You can look up the rosters/coaches if you desire.

It’s amazing Richt survived another 4 seasons. I don’t know how he survived a mediocre 2009, a terrible 2010 and an 0-2 start in 2011.

going 14-2 in SEC play during 2011 and 2012 certainly helped

UGA was never going to fire him after two mediocre seasons, mostly due to the success he had during his first years 8 years at UGA.

Going 10-0 to close out the 2011 regular season definitely saved his job, and then coming close to a natty in 2012 definitely did.

It was the right time to go, but him getting fired after back to back 10-3 seasons is a bit funny since 09 and 10 were a lot worse than 14 and 15
