This is awful - and I thought they were turning it around after winning those two games and getting that early lead against Anaheim - this is a mess - embarrassing

But on a serious note, Flyers FO has some serious work to do. Awful decision process overall for the coaching issue, should have been taken care of over the Summer.

I can't believe the Flyers have degenerated into this kind of fucking mess! When Read went down, only Downey came to his defense. The team, and I use this term loosely, are truly spectators and not participants. Streit is a loser! He was for the Islanders and has brought that crap with him. Holgrem has to quit picking up ancient garbage and build a farm system.

To bypass Torts and Vigneault is a goddamn disgrace.

Torts um no. I'm not going to overreact let's see how they come back tomorrow. If they sleepwalk then we need to be concerned....although I may call up Laurd to change up D chemistry maybe another forward. sounds like Downies already out.

I don't think Tort hockey would've been the solution to the Flyers' problems. Really the problem is the way the team is setup, which falls on the GM, whomever that might be

The Flyers have a GM? But hey just remember "We don't need a fresh perspective" - Ed Snider....<sigh>

At the end of the day he's not getting good results. Last years Flyers had the highest payroll in the entire NHL yet missed the playoffs completely. This year's Flyers have the 7th highest payroll and are the 2nd worst team in the league. I don't see how he could keep his job spending that much money and getting such poor results. He must be well connected and/or have dirt on his employer(s).

I think the obvious problem with the Flyers' offense is the lack of offensive production by Claude Giroux. Just a couple years ago, Giroux was one of the top offensive players in the league (many said he was even better than Sid) and the Flyers were one of the top offensive teams in the league. Over time, Giroux's production has declined and the Flyers' offensive production has declined with it.

Giroux
2011-12: 0.36 goals per game, 0.84 assists per game, 1.21 points per game
2012-13: 0.27 goals per game, 0.73 assists per game, 1.00 points per game
2013-14: 0.00 goals per game, 0.50 assists per game, 0.50 points per game.

Flyers
2011-12: 3.17 goals per game
2012-13: 2.75 goals per game
2013-14: 1.62 goals per game

I'm not saying Giroux sucks or is overrated. I'm not saying he should be stripped of the C. I fully acknowledge that Claude Giroux is one of the most talented players in the league and a very deserving captain. At the same time, I believe he takes the ultimate responsibility for the decline of the Flyers' offense. If Giroux doesn't play like an ELITE level player, then the Flyers have very little hope of turning the season around.

Well said Doob. I really couldn't agree more.

Yeah, I don't mean to bash Giroux. I think it's important to think about what has changed since 2012.

-Jagr is gone without being replaced
-Carle is gone without being replaced
-Hartnell keeps getting hurt
-New coach

I think the key to turning the team around is to address those issues.

I'm one of the most optimistic people on this entire forum when it comes to this team. There's not much more I can say. In the long term, I believe in the players and the coaches. This is the month we breakout though.

Schenn, Lecavalier and Read now all have it going offensively. With the way the defense and goaltending are holding up, we're going to win a ton of games once Giroux, Voracek, Hartnell and Simmonds start scoring. And they all will...with their track records, it's just a matter of time.

With other guys like Couturier and Raffl that play more of a defensive game, they may not start scoring, but they're certainly getting it done elsewhere and we shouldn't need those goals regardless.

This is why I think that its wrong to exclusively point the finger at the D. I also won't just call out G as Harts, Timonen, Jake, etc haven't done much to help the cause either. IMO it's a team slump! But I have faith that they will work their way out of it. Homer has tried to tweak the lineup with the Downie trade adding another guy who can contribute offensively and which has played with Vinny. Yet we hammer on the guy without waiting on how this move plays out. Of course with this teams luck of late Downie and Vinny go down with injuries but I'm going to be patient due to this...

I'm not pointing fingers at Giroux, I'm just saying he needs to step up his game. When the whole team is slumping they need their superstar to carry them on his back. That's what superstars are supposed to do at times like these.
