It would be nice to have a catcher who can throw a guy out

That being said maybe Maddux can teach the pitchers to hold runners. The worst

I still would like to see the Rangers sign a couple of relievers.

From Evan Grant:

According to Fangraphs’ “STEAMER” projections – and to be sure, these are essentially projections of projections at this point – the five pitchers in the Rangers’ rotation would combine for a 13.3 WAR. Rangers starting pitchers combined for 5.8 WAR in 2022. It ranked 26th of 30 teams.

So, this would represent a significant jump. But the point is not to simply be better, it’s to make the playoffs. So, internal improvement isn’t nearly as important as how it stacks up against the rest of the AL.

Well, let’s put it this way: The same projection lists the current Astros’ rotation, now without Justin Verlander, at 10.9, the current Seattle rotation at 11.0 and the current Yankees’ configuration at 11.5.

The projection is the highest in the AL.

Wow That’s pretty awesome!
Let’s hope everyone stays healthy

No data to prove this at this point but the Jays staff projection may now be higher with their new addition

Degrom himself probably accounts for 6-7 of that

Guys like Jamey Newberg and Adam Morris never think Blaine Crim has any future in the big leagues if you ask them about Crim playing for the Rangers. Then today, Newberg comes out with an article about trade possibilities and suddenly Crim is supposed to have value to other teams. Nothing like talking out of both sides of your mouth.

Rays have designated JP Feyereisen for assignment to make room for Eflin. They are looking to trade him now, and the only reason he is expendable is due to him having surgery on his labrum and rotator cuff, which will shelve him until August. But he’s a really good reliever, comes at a cheap price salary-wise, and is under control for 4 more years. He would definitely be worth pursuing, depending on what the Rays would want in return.

Sam Dykstra has an article out about Rule 5 picks and their chances to stick. He lists one guy as most likely to stick and then the next category is "they have a chance." The second guy he lists in that category is Mason Englert.
