There were other guys who could have been released a few weeks back and brought back on minor league deals as well.

#1 mystery
They had to finish closing out their older failure of the Yu Darvish trade before they could address their more recent failure of the Kyle Gibson trade. They’ll get to our buddy Howard soon enough.

“Our fans deserve a championship,” Young said. “I grew up a Rangers fan. My kids are Rangers fans. Every kid in DFW needs to be wearing a Texas ‘T’ instead of Dodgers and Padres and Mets. We gotta get them back.”

As to how he communicates this to free agents, Young said it was pretty simple.

“Honesty and transparency,” Young said. “There are no bells and whistles to what our presentation is. It’s just maybe overly honest, authentic transparency, acknowledging the work but also expressing a conviction in that we believe that we’re doing this the right way, and it’s going to last. And I think it resonates with a lot of the players.”

I’m getting more and more Joey Gallo vibes lol.
Like a 2 year deal with an opt out after the first year. Also with incentives both years.
Similar to Heaney..
Or just a straight up 1 year $8.5 million deal
Gallo would want it bc he hit well with the Rangers.
Rangers may want it as a hold over for LF.
Gallo wins ALDS MVP lifting the Rangers over the Yankees.. jk haha

You know what, never mind lol

And with that, the Yu Darvish trade is now officially over.

In conclusion the Texas Rangers got absolutely nothing in their trade of Yu Darvish

The Darvish trade was a massive stink bomb. I called it when they announced it. I thought Willie was a lackluster take for a solid #2 borderline #1 starter.

we should’ve got a buehler or Verdugo out of it or just not traded him at all. Keep in mind that the dodgers thought highly enough of Darvish to start him 3 times in the World Series ( I know it backfired, but still). We should’ve got more.

Either the talent evaluators or the negotiators sucked or both. Were they the same that accepted Spencer Howard as anything worth accepting in trade cause he's just as awful.

To be honest Alexy is more useful than Howard probably but they both should be delivering newspapers in the age of electronic news

Sometimes you hold on to the player and let them walk if the offers are insulting. You have to hold your ground sometimes or you will be eternally lowballed.

So to the people who say just get something. That is not always prudent

Sometimes that happens because a prospect is just exactly that, a prospect...

I would imagine the Yankee team/fans currently feel extremely screwed over the Gallo trade even though it hasn't all played out yet...

I'm guessing they will try to resign him to a minors contract if nobody snatches him up. He did pretty well in 2021 in the minors (about 1.70 ERA over 65 innings) so they know there is talent there, they just need to figure out how to get it out of him on a regular basis...

Makes you wonder if MLB will eventually set forth rules about free agents and their contracts to avoid possible future issues...

Honestly, I probably would’ve preferred that. The Darvish trade pisses me off everytime it’s brought up. I wish we were left holding the bag with nothing. Willie Calhoun acted like a spoiled brat the whole time he was here. in fairness. The kid had a point when we were sending him down to the minors while playing some guy at 2nd base who could barely hit above .100 and was racking up the golden sombreros.

JD just got too fat and happy. He coasted for 5 years, collected paychecks, while the major league team was unbelievably bad and the farm was even worse.

As constructed right now, this Rangers team could be every bit ss good as the 2009 Rangers team. That 2009 team was only a year away from going to the World Series.

They need some OBP guys.
Cheapest way $$ wise to greatly upgrade that would be to sign Benintendi($15) and trade for Reynolds($6.7 mil)
Benintendi was #5(OF) in OBP w/ a wRC+ 122
Reynolds was #13(OF) in OBP w/ a wRC+ 125

They could still stay under the $233 mil threshold. Line up would be a lot better too imo.

Nobody thought that about them in 2009 though
