interesting Woodward says that Lyles was informed that he would be part of the piggybacking starter system that the Rangers would start the season with and Grant sticks him in the pen with Cody/Benjamin/Dunning/Hearn piggybacking. think i'll go with what Woodward says.

I don't think the Rangers originally expected so many of their young pitchers to look so promising in ST. I looked at several articles about their talk with Lyles and there are very little direct quotes of Woodward. Adam Morris suggested it was still up in the air, while Chris Halicke assumed that Lyles would be in the piggyback tandem with another pitcher.

Apparently the conversation between Woody and Lyles occurred a couple of weeks ago. I guess Evan has seen enough in the last couple of weeks to think Lyles will be in the bullpen. Myself, I wouldn't have been disappointed if they had released Lyles and I would still be fine if they do that. They really don't need that many veterans in the rotation while rebuilding.

Really good arm
At some point, they may be able to get a decent return for him when Huff is ready to push everyone down a rung.

Gibson goes 4 innings without giving up a hit or a walk while striking out 6. Usually with veterans, I don't pay too much attention to ST achievements, or the lack thereof, unless they are really, really good or really, really bad. Gibson's outing was impressive though.

On average, I think the team as a whole is looking better than I expected it to.

I dont see the offense being much better than it has been but hopefully the pitching is starting to make some head way

I can see where you are coming from but I guess I am still not sure about the BP. But we seem to have a number of players who can play various positions and hopefully a strong youth movement coming along. It will take time if we are in a rebuild of course but I like some of the things I am seeing.

I agree with this somewhat.

the offense will probably look better. I like Dahl, ikf will probably take full advantage of the opportunity to come into his own, condor will do all he can to save himself, and odor will probably keep on stinking while management ignores it.

can’t wait until odor is off the team.

If a good hitter has no protection in the lineup they see less good pitches. Not saying Davis is solution but Gallo has had no advantage in this area. He chased early in career but look at his walks now.
Bet there is a stat for pitches seen in the zone and he does not get his fair share

I think the Rangers will need a wealth of pitchers due lack of innings last year. Of course the counter argument that simulated games SHOULD come into play has relevance. Maybe we get one small edge in this area

There is potential there for them to be better from what I've seen so far this Spring...

I think getting the lineup in better shape will help ease the pressure on the staff to perform night after night which probably would result in better pitching, we'll see...

If Guzman, Davis and White keep hitting I think they'll part ways with Calhoun in short order...

And I have a sneaking suspicion Odor will be on the Opening Day roster whether we like it or not...

And the injury bug will also rear it's ugly head too...
