He has a 4.70 ERA and a WHIP of 1.48 against the American League. That tells me to run from him. Of course, since JD tends to ignore those kind of stats, Evan might be right.

A JD special has been underpays like Minor and Lynn and unfortunately a shot in the dark like Smiley.
Not a mid level pitcher being praised in the marketplace poor his upside. Wheeler has high velo and some say an upside not utilized yet.
He would be a serviceable addition but I would rather we spend elsewhere too.

There may be some ways it might keep them from spending as much money to keep the team together, or to keep them from signing replacements equal to what they lose in FA.

What it does is quite that fan base that thinks they had the best team ever. A couple of tough losses and now people are touting them as an asterisk.

Should this club make Rendon its cornerstone?

Nov. 22: The Rangers have a number of options they can pursue to address their void at third base, but in MLB Network insider Joel Sherman's view, the club doesn't just need someone productive to man the hot corner, it needs a franchise cornerstone as it prepares to open a new ballpark in 2020.

Playing the role of Rangers general manager, Sherman would make signing Rendon the team's top priority this offseason. There's seemingly a perfect fit between Rendon, a Texas native, and the Rangers, who had the third-lowest wRC+ (77) at third base in the Majors.

The club has been connected to Josh Donaldson, but Rendon is more than four years younger. Even if the team makes multiple additions this offseason, it might not be ready to seriously contend until 2021, at which point Donaldson will be 35 years old. And although Donaldson is a former American League MVP, he's not at Rendon's level at this point. While that means Rendon will be far more expensive, the Rangers don't have much in the way of future commitments.

Factoring in projected arbitration raises, Cot's Baseball Contracts puts the Rangers' 2020 payroll around $110 million. Although that figure is just $8 million shy of Texas' Opening Day payroll in 2019, the team is likely to increase spending. The Rangers had an Opening Day payroll of $133 million in 2018, and the expected revenue bump from their new stadium could allow them to spend significantly more than that. Looking ahead to 2021 and '22, the club has less than $50 million committed in each season.

Is there any guesses - regarding the new park - and how the ball will travel?......That's not phrased very well, but I hope someone will be able to interpert............I haven't studied the dimensions, but since - I'm speculating - that 70% of our home games will be played indoors, shouldn't all of this factor into who we're considering for OF positions?

• Willie is probably never going to win any GG. But can't he be adequate in LF? His bat seems to be worth the risk of D to me.......He lost some weight, and honestly seemed to be willing to put his best efforts in.
• Gallo is a given in RF to me. He's got all of what it takes to be a better - maybe MUCH better - than average RF, and his bat needs no edification from me.....I was semi-surpirsed at the progress he showed last year. And VERY encouraged.
• CF...........Marte, would be so wonderful!
