What TR Sullivan had to say about Ryu.

"However, red flags include that he has been in the injured list at least once each year for the past six seasons and his numbers are considerably better at pitcher-friendly Dodger Stadium than on the road. But he is unlikely to command the knee-buckling offers possibly awaiting Cole, Madison Bumgarner and others and could be a good No. 3 behind Lance Lynn and Mike Minor if he holds up. The Rangers have talent evaluators who are high on him."

Probably and he would still be a stopgap. Are there any free agent TJ starters? I see JD signing another 2 or 3 this off-season

The Red Sox may be in a little bit of a pickle as J.D. Martinez has decided not to opt out of his contract. They will HAVE to make some moves to cut costs.
They will have to move a pitcher or Betts to get under luxury tax

Donaldson represents a fascinating conundrum for Atlanta. The Braves signed the veteran to a one-year prove it deal last offseason that at the time seemed to make a great deal of sense for all involved. Atlanta needed a powerful right-handed bat to help protect Freddie Freeman, and Donaldson needed to rebuild his own value after being limited to just 165 total games over the previous two seasons due to a variety of injuries. One of the club's top prospects, third baseman Austin Riley, was set to begin the season in AAA and appeared ticketed to take over the hot corner at SunTrust Park for good in 2020. But things now are not so cut and dry. Donaldson just hit 37 homers and drove in 94 runs out of the clean-up spot in the Atlanta order. Riley got some big league at-bats as a left fielder, an experiment that did not go all that well, and while offensively he got off to a hot start, he faded badly down the stretch. Donaldson will enter next season at 34 years of age, and with his injury history, teams will surely hesitate at the asking price his 2019 season would indicate he deserves. The lack of a true ace contributed mightily to Atlanta's frustrating postseason exit, and the club will have to determine if the resources needed to keep Donaldson in Georgia would be better spent on pitching.

Prediction: Texas Rangers, four years/$68 million

This same article has Hamels going to the Padres for 2 years and about $25 mil and Chirons resigning with Houston for $5 mil

BR top 50 FA list has us signing Josh Donaldson 3 yr 75M and Hyun-Jin Ryu 3yr 54M and we are mentioned as being in the mix for Gerrit Cole, Anthony Rendon, Stephen Strasburg, Zack Wheeler, Yasmani Grandal, Jose Abreu, Mike Moustakis, Wade Miley, Travis Arnaud, Rick Porcello, Jason Castro, Shogo Akiyama and Michael Wacha. if only it were true that JD and the owners would be active

If they were right about us spending that much, I would rather take that $43 million of AAV and sign Rendon with some left over for something cheaper.

A good #3 behind Minor and Lynn and Rendon is a better way to go for 2020. Learn from the Astros. Big money alone is not the answer. Re: Cole and Verlander.

signing Gerrit Cole or Rendon or Strasburg or Wheeler or Donaldson is going to cost not only the contract value but also our 2nd highest pick in the draft & $500000 in international bonus money but if we sign a second player on that list we also lose our 3rd highest pick and another $500000 in bonus money. wish we could afford to do it but I think only one of Rendon or Donaldson and possibly Ryu makes sense. still leaves a couple of holes at catcher and CF so maybe Arnaud or Castro at C and a trade for Marte for CF

It is the same amount of money being spent so in that sense it is not cheaper.
in the sense that Rendon is going to have a AAV of 35M what you get for the 8M AAV leaves that pitcher you get as a cheap and maybe not worth signing
