Vietnam Veteran
Absolutelydon't know how much of it is thinking long-term, but Elvis is definitely a veteran presence right now.

I hate that that is the most common term used to describe the RangersSince Derek Holland has ties to the area and since the Rangers are going cheap I do wonder if they will work out a deal bringing him back on a one-year deal plus an option for another year.
Let's hope when the time comes Elvis is willing to switch positions without carping about it. Maybe he learned from a bad example to not do the same thing.Perhaps they rework a deal for Elvis during break next year if all goes well.
Sounds like Mgr thinks he is their long term guy
I think the time is coming within a year or two when that will no longer be the case. Probably two offseasons from now, but maybe some change next year.I hate that that is the most common term used to describe the Rangers

Some SS when they get older switch to 2B or 3B. That is a ways off for Elvis, but eventually we will have a guy in the organization who will make a better SS than Elvis.Where would he switch to?
so who are some really cheap FA pitchers the Rangers will be pursing this off-seasonI think the time is coming within a year or two when that will no longer be the case. Probably two offseasons from now, but maybe some change next year.
I couldn't begin to guess. I think they will probably sign one more to a regular contract and then a couple to minor league contracts with a ST invite. It really doesn't matter much unless they would be willing to sign a guy who would be good enough to flip at the deadline.so who are some really cheap FA pitchers the Rangers will be pursing this off-season

define competent
actually .244 BA career but who's counting.260+ batting average, .340+, .700+ OPS
If you're getting that plus defense from your CF, you're pretty happy
Not really anyone in particular yet. This organization goes after a lot of SS though in the draft and in the Carribean. At some point someone is going to look like a better option at SS.Seise on your radar? Maybe Tejada
actually .244 BA career but who's counting
you are right. but I still think it is time to move on from him, Rua, Alberto, Robinson etcDidn't say his career, but he's posted 2 seasons with those numbers before and certainly capable again,
Personally, I'm going to chock up last year as an injury related bump in the road
JD has reassessed
JD may not ever realize it, but Hamels belongs in the NL. He always has. He had terrible numbers against the AL before the trade and eventually his numbers while here started to creep back up to what they had always been.
JD has reassessed
Point of article was JD asked questions re improvement and answer was advance analytics. Surely the improvement was not just a transfer to the weaker hitting leagueJD may not ever realize it, but Hamels belongs in the NL. He always has.
