I think the Rangers are trying to learn something themselves in the interview process.

I think it is very deliberate and not necessarily indecisiveness as some skeptics might suggest

With the right approach to blending FA's & our best prospects it could be as early as 2021 but if our approach is to rely solely on our prospects we could be talking 2024 or 2025 or later.

We could be ready to contend for a wildcard by then if that is the goal.

A WS championship is my goal. It will take a blend of mostly prospects and a few FA.

If we spend money in SP in 2019 offseason we may be able to contend for playoff birth in 2020. We shall see how the Astros handle age and retention of their core starting 2020

Are you spending on an ace and a #2? Who are you getting and for how much and for how long.

Isn't ace money close to $28 million for 6 years and #2 money about $20 million for 5 years?

And they are learning from him as evidenced by teams pursuing his lieutenants for other GM positions. The time JD stops trying to learn and improve will likely be the time he steps aside.

You gotta have a lot more than good fortune to get there. Being the best hitting team was very helpful.

To me it isn't about the owners being frugal. To me it is about it being unwise to sign a 30-something year-old pitcher who isn't going to be worth the money most of the years that he is signed. Save that money for position players who don't fall apart so easily. Just not on a guy the size of Prince or as old as Choo.

Yes, it will, but will the cost paralyze our budget again when those pitchers' production falls off the table in year 3 of their contract.

He doesn't appear to be a TORP presently. Maybe a Colby Lewis type.
