Wouldnt 4 more be 18?
I was saying if Virginia Tech goes B1G then SEC would need a 16th with NcsT.
Wouldnt 4 more be 18?
John, you do realize that Virginia Tech has only been in the ACC for ten years right? Meanwhile GT has been in it for 35.
The West division would get a hell of a lot more competitive (and fertile for recruiting) real quick.
East:
Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State
Michigan State
West:
Nebraska
Texas
Oklahoma
Wisconsin
That's a hell of a league.
GT I could see, Texas part is bullshit though.
-I don't think it could happen now:
Georgia
Kentucky
Florida
South Carolina
Texas A&M
would all block it making it impossible politically.
Texas isn't going anywhere and this is just a rumor made up by some dumbass. All of this was put to rest when TCU and WVU were added after the defections. I still think the Big 12 adds 2 more teams. Today, it's all about money. Why would Texas go to the B1G and take a major paycut? It doesn't make sense. Not to mention, the B1G is not going to allow UT to have their own network. Message board posters can make all the assumptions they want, but the facts prove Texas isn't going anywhere and the Big 12 isn't breaking up. Now, after the TV contracts expire in about 13 years, shit may start up again, but that's 13-15 years from now. Who fucking cares until then?
Dont see why these teams keep leaving conferences. This probably isnt true, but it does highlight all the conference changing.
Not sure how you figure they would be taking a paycut of any sort. The move would be lucrative for UT.
I think any LHN issues could be worked out if it was something UT was adamant about keeping. Plenty of work arounds and I don't see that as the single roadblock that would stop an agreement.
Ultimately, you're right that Texas is going to stay in the B12 for the short term and in all likelihood the long term as well. Still, its fun to speculate.
Various reasons. Schools like TCU and WVU change conferences so they can get into the national picture. Schools like Maryland switch because its a more financially beneficial deal. Schools like Texas and Nebraska move for different reasons all together: prestige, a chance to be a part of something bigger than they currently are in, security, stability, etc etc.
Texas currently makes anywhere between $31M-$35M a year in TV revenue (LHN deal and Big 12 TV deal). Are you telling me the B1G would match that just to get Texas to join?
But it seems to kill rivalries.
There is also the rumor of Texas + Kansas + Oklahoma + three more schools for a 20 team B1G.
That'll really T me off if Texas were to leave the B12.
