I, for one, will be a little sad when GT no longer runs the triple option.

It's funny how we still have a position called Quarterback, who usually lines up in the fullback's position (on most college teams); the fullback is lined up in the halfback's spot; and there are no more halfbacks

I'd think he can do better than Ga Tech then. He's taken Washington State from being a laughingstock to now bein ranked 3 straight years.

Agreed...that's the deal with Tech...you're stuck with 3 star recruits at best because of the curriculum...that's kinda why Johnson had some success...he was able to recruit a QB that couldn't pass, but could run the wishbone and stay eligible.

Can they get back to Chan Gailey level recruiting? That's the 64 mil question...if the new incoming HC can do that, and go a little more conventional on OFC, maybe they can...only 2nd & 3rd tier guys really want to run the triple option.

I live down in GA, so this is what a few of the guys heard on various message boards...

Paul Johnson is retiring from Georgia Tech

Gus is leaving Auburn, and coming to Georgia Tech with Auburn paying most of his buyout.

Anyone hear anything near this crazy? This rumor was supposedly leaked from inside Tech's athletic department.
LOL

I hope this is correct someone get Droider and OD on this stat, we need confirmation!

Gus could probably win at GT, but I want to know who the Auburn coach is in this scenario.
They will do something stupid like bring back Tubs.

Gus could definitely turn GT into a perennial power again.. and he doesn't have to deal w Bama, LSU, A&M all in one division. That's a good move for him honestly.
Yes Gus listen to this wise man and do as he suggest.

Still have the military academies I suppose.

I think Gus could have more success in a less pressured conference and school. I don't think he brings them national attention, but I could see him turning them into a powerhouse in the ACC (and likely losing routinely to Clemson).

I think he is a little over his head at Auburn.

IMO, if a guy like Gus comes to Tech, then they have decided to lower the academic requirements for football players. Gus isn't coming to a program like Tech having to wear academic handcuffs IMO.

Watching his twitter feed right before the Iron Bowl would be awesome

I don't think anybody expects him to be down in Directional Florida for too long. Eventually, some big program will take another flier on him.
FAU finished 5-7 this year.

I can see similar success as far as record wise so around 8 wins, an improvement for GT. But I don't think he would ever get the talent he had in Auburn (avg. top ten the last 5 years) and the schedule doesn't get much easier with UGA, Clem, and FSU every year and they play Notre Dame in 2020, 2021

Johnson is going to retire and start his own soul food restaurant in Atlanta. And Jermaine Dupri will take over as coach of Ga-Tech
Probably get better recruits at least

As far as the Paul Johnson side of this, I'm relieved. He's been here 11 years and never really turned the corner on the program.
True, however Tech is a very difficult school to gain admission to so they don't have a lot of variety to choose from recruiting wise
