I could write a mile long list of "fan favorite" coaches that sucked when they got their chance.

Can't compare the past to today's "what have you done for me lately" NFL. Cowher had three losing seasons to start in Pittsburgh I believe. Different era.

Rob. It isnt your fault that Suh lost a step this year. He is still a top 10 DT. Be happy Detroit didn't throw away 114 million dollars. It was one of the few smart decisions Mayhew made. Now that we have a GM that came from NE. I wouldn't develop a man crush on anymore Lions. If he follows in Belichick foot steps, Detroit will cut bait on many high priced players if their value doesn't match their production.

Not good news for Levy.

Very true. Probably not good news for Calvin either. At least Mayhew made one smart decision in his tenure though.

Is this opinion based on the fact that Mayhew tried to pay him more than JJ Watt, and make Suh the highest D player in the NFL? Or is this opinion based on the fact that you thought Mayhew only tried to make him the highest paid DT?

Sounded like BQ wants Calvin to stick around, but it also sounds like Calvin will be retiring. Still a big mystery IMO.

Paying a DT as the highest paid defensive player in the NFL is pure stupidity

A league source told ESPN.com that Detroit's offer to Suh was $17 million per year with $58 million guaranteed -- a deal that would have still made Suh the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL.

Never mind. I found the answer.

My opinion is based on the fact Suh isn't even the best defensive tackle and after watching him this year, he is closer to top 5-10 than he is to Aaron Donald. That is why I said he should have sent a thank you to Austin for making him look like a great run stopping defensive tackle after years and years of average and mediocre. Miami now gets the pre-Austin Suh. :)

I stand by this statement 1000%. My guess is Joe Philbin, Kevin Coyle, Dennis Hickey and Bill Lazor now agree too.

Eagles hired Chiefs OC Doug Pederson as head coach.

The news was broken by the Philadelphia Daily News' Les Bowen. In a statement to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles said they have "concluded our search for a head coach." Pederson's hiring won't become official until the Chiefs' playoff run is through. An NFL assistant since only 2009, Pederson has served as Andy Reid's offensive coordinator since he arrived in Kansas City in 2013. He's overseen conservative, run-heavy units, but also gotten the most out of limited weapons. Along with Reid, Pederson helped the Chiefs successfully scheme around Jamaal Charles' injury to reel off a 10-game winning streak and make the playoffs. It's by no means a home run hire for the Eagles, but Pederson was the best name left on their board. It appears Pederson will be hiring ex-Rams DC Ken Flajole, presumably for the same position.

Bucs promoted OC Dirk Koetter to head coach.

The Bucs went through an eight day dog-and-pony show after firing Lovie Smith, but have settled on the candidate everyone thought they were going to hire. Koetter revived Doug Martin in 2015 while overseeing Jameis Winston's solid rookie campaign, but we'd stop short of calling him an offensive guru. One month shy of his 57th birthday, Koetter's head coaching experience is three years at Boise State followed by a failed stint at Arizona State. The Bucs may have been better off simply keeping their 2015 arrangement, though they obviously feared Koetter getting hired away as someone else's head coach.

Who am I trolling? The wigger in the bowling alley who didn't know the Lions offered to make Suh the highest paid D player on the league?

Haven't heard wigger in awhile. Brings back memories of JT when he was younger.

Ty for the fred durst pic. I passed it along for you. He had a good laugh, but said jesse james is the guy he gets told he looks like.

That being said. Why haven't you posted the big news about the next coach Suh gets fired. Miami hired Cincy's secondary coach to be their defensive coordinator.

Jesse James LOL you are such a nerd. Put your Suh obsession on hold for a day, Jesse. Caldwell has been retained.

Leave comedy to those with a sense of humor. That attempt by you was a bigger flop than the Suh signing by Miami

Well, looks like TA will be back as DC next year. I hope he's extra vengeful on game day against teams who decided to pass him up (especially for a guy like Mike Mularky)

Also, Miami hired an OC, so JBC looks safe too.

JBC was never going anywhere unless he was fired. You dont leave 1 team for another to stay at the same job. There would have to be some other serious issue.
