Who ya got???

Hendrix, by a fair bit. He was so much more versatile. After SRV sobered up, he started experimenting much more with Jazz influences, and I believe he could have possibly matched up with Hendrix had it not been for gravity.

Then again, Hendrix was only on the scene for about three years and a bisquit until his untimely demise, so if we're going to 'what if' an extended life for Vaughn, I supposed we'd have to do the same for Hendrix.

He changed the electric guitar playing game as someone else mentioned. He simply created better music.

What do you propose SRV should have created, sure Jimi created something amazing but that's only because there was something to create.

You obviously realize Jimi didn't write all his own songs and SRV did write some good songs of his own.

Having said that I did vote for Jimi but it's ridiculous to say it's not close.

As much as I love Hendrix I believe he is romanticized by us fans, he just did something nobody had done before and by the time SRV came along everything had been done, that shouldn't be a knock on Stevie.

I'm a big fan of SRV and I consider him the fiercest blues guitarist to ever walk the planet, but nearly every song he wrote was a 12-bar blues song. I love them, but there's a universe between writing a great blues tune, and something like Bold As Love.

Agreed... and LZ is one of my favorite groups too.

yep, i really enjoy a lot of LZ's tunes, I just never saw Page as any sort of groundbreaking guitar player or anything.

That's the thing about creativity and innovation.. especially the sort that takes {whatever} to another level. There's no telling where it can go until someone does it.

I don't think saying Vaughn isn't in the same class as Hendrix is a knock at all. But I do agree that artists who died young tend to get romanticized and elevated too much.

Jimmy Page never really was all that impressive to me, honestly.

Fair. I think Hendrix was more innovative...actually like both.

I truthfully think you could probably take maybe 10 of these guys put the list in front of a 100 people and Page would probably be on maybe 75% of the top 5 lists.

Question...thoughts on Zeppelin as a whole?

Then you can't exclude Eric Clapton

No sir...saw him in Philly back in mid 90s. He had cleaned up some I think, and was clearly moving more into Blues genre, but he gave us the full spectrum...from Cream days to Unplugged. It was one of the better concerts I've seen live.

lolz

I always assumed that you played guitar based on your handle. I guess I was wrong.
I do play guitar, in fact, I own three of them so you were correct in assuming I play guitar. I played in a Rock band before I was married.

As a whole, I very much enjoy Led Zeppelin. I enjoy the great majority of their music.
