Stats Say Nick Foles Is by Far the Best Quarterback in the NFL

I never said YPA is the only stat that indicates whether a QB had a good season or not; but YPA over the course of a season is a good indicator of efficiency. Obviously you also need to look at passer rating, interception percentage (and how many of them were the QB's fault), etc; and there are a million other factors. However, yards per game is not one of those factors. Yards per game is dependent upon WAY too many other variables than a QB's performance.

Yards per game means nothing; YPA is one of the most telling stats of a QB's performance.

THats actually incredibly untrue... think about QB's of teams with great running games... run run run run. Play action throw it deep. Of course they will have higher YPA. Now YPA is important, but it is not even close to the best indicator.

Mark Sanchez is not a good comparison. The difference is, Sanchez has never even been close to #1 in YPA, passer rating, and TD/INT. Even when Sanchez was winning games in his first few years thanks to his team's run game and defense, Sanchez, unlike Foles, was always a statistically mediocre-to-terrible quarterback.

I said I thought Foles was a better QB and I was only bringing up Sanchez as an example of a Rookie QB with early success who was not able to sustain it.

Didn't compare their statistics.

Point was, let's see what happens.

Vikings have lost the game in the last two minutes four times this year, I believe? If they could finish those games, they'd be in the playoffs.

Been two weeks since the original post, and another great two weeks for Foles. He was great in the 54-11 crushing of Chicago. Even in the loss to the Vikings, Foles was good (the problem for the Eagles there was more their total defensive breakdown -- 48 points to the Vikes without Adrian Peterson?).

Foles is still highest in the NFL in YPA (at 9.03, ahead of Aaron Rodgers at 8.84) and passer rating (at 118.8, ahead of Peyton Manning at 113.0).

Stats are only as valuable as the as the number of samples you have… lets get a few more samples before we jump to broad conclusions.
