Seems like to me that if you're Philly, the smart thing to would be to call up Mitch(if it's legal at this time of the year) and offer to trade back that protected pick to the Lakers for either a current player(except for Randle, Clarkson or Russell) and then have something guaranteed. Or they could trade the pick for a pick next year - they already have a ton of new players and it would be a win for both teams - unless both teams are stuck due to the rules or are greedy enough to wait to see what happens. If this would not be allowed, then this is a dead topic

I stopped reading after this statement

If the Lakers are not willing to open any of those 3 players to a trade (and those players should be off the table IMO) that would leave just a shit pile to look at.

There is no one else on that Lakers that would anyone would trade a bag of chips for - maybe Nance Jr but if I'm the Sixers I am certainly not trading back the Lakers pick for Nance Jr.

guaranteed? A guaranteed pile of shit

Exactly. Nance Jr. has been a pleasant surprise. In Clarkson and Nance Jr., the Lakers arguably got the steal of the draft in 2 of the last 3 drafts. But Nance needs to show improvement next season like Clarkson did before he can be considered a player that would net any kind of good return in a trade. As of now, the Sixers could get a guy who's just as good or better by keeping the pick.

Perhaps I didn't clarify myself - I didn't realize that they get next year's pick instead if they don't get this one, so that does change everything and makes the entire dead next to impossible, but my logic was that why not make a trade that is guaranteed instead of waiting for something that could be awash. Now on the other hand, Philly could just wait and if they lose the pick in the draft pick, then offer to trade for something better because both teams would know what they can get. If the Lakers ends up between 4 and 10, Philly isn't giving anything up unless two things happen

1. They don't want to wait another year
2. They can't get almost just as good by not waiting

No deals are going to be made at this time though. It's a mute point, but I thought that before and I thought I said that before - I was just playing a What if possibility and why not. There was no reason for Dumbshit Hurricane to make this a TLF Zone - Especially when he has more senior moments then my mother had when she was alive and had Alzheimmers

The way I understand it now - if the pick is a top three - If that happens - then Philly gets the Lakers first round pick next year instead. If the pick drops below the three, then it goes to Philly and the Lakers are free next year

It's top 3 protected next year as well. If the Lakers suck again next year and have a top 3 pick they'll keep the pick. It's not an either or situation. Unprotected in 2018.

Assuming they keep the pick this year and don't completely fuck up in free agency, I don't think it's likely that they will be bad enough next year to keep a top 3 pick. I'm not saying they will be good or even that they will make the playoffs. But I expect to see enough improvement that the chances of keeping the pick will be slim to none. Maybe be in the running for a 7-8 seed before settling at around 10th.

If that turns out to be the case, the first rounder owed to Orlando in 2018 turns into 2017 and 2018 2nd rounders. Unlikely to happen though.

When y'all could decide whether or not the Lakers pick next year is top 3 protected...could you let us know?

It is protected.

  • 2016 — Owe first-rounder (top-three protected through 2017, unprotected in 2018) to Philadelphia 76ers (Steve Nash, Brandon Knight).
  • 2018 — Owe first-rounder (top-five protected, unprotected in 2019) to Orlando Magic (Dwight Howard). If a first-rounder not sent to Philadelphia by 2017, pick to Orlando converts to 2017 and 2018 second-rounders.
  • 2019 — Owe second-rounder to Indiana Pacers (Roy Hibbert).

Im hearing Philly wants to maybe get rid of one of the bigs. I dont see why they both cant work out a fair trade.

Now that Kobe is gone, I think the Lakers will be an attractive market for Los Angeles. That just wasn't the case with an aging Kobe who had three years of serious injuries. Either way I think and hope that the Lakers will make some kind of a splash
