You should stop the list here. Once he had his shoulder surgically fixed he's been respectibly durable. His shoulder was the main reason for him missing so many games prior to this point.

Not True I know for a fact he missed a large portion of the 07 season to an ankle injury

19 or 20 games but it hasn't been a consistant problem. Only the shoulder was a reoccuring issue. He had two stretches of 15-20+ games then another that was near 60. If the last three years are any example then that issue appears to have been fixed. At no time the past three seasons has he missed games because of the shoulder. If he fixed the injury that caused him to be injury prone is it really fair to continue to label him as such?

How many years does Havlat have left on his contract? How much money do the Sharks save in this trade?

Will the money saved be used to resign Couture & Burns or bring in someone else for next season's run at the Cup?

4 years left, one more than Heatler did at a cap hit that is $2.5m less. Wilson may use the extra cap space to bring someone else in for just this year but will most likely have to use it for Burns and Couture's new contracts next offseason.

You could do this exact same thing (i.e. - list a bunch of games missed whether related injuries or not) above for a lot of players. It looks a lot worse when you list games missed due to individual injuries. Over the last 3 years, he's missed 1 LESS game then Henrik Zetterberg. Over the last 3 years, he's missed 15 LESS games then Pavel Datsyuk.

Look, I'm not saying he's not prone to injury.....clearly, he is. However, you start analyzing/comparing him to others and it's not nearly so black and white. Given the stipulations I stated in my prior post, is anything I said before wrong???

Its too bad Heatley is gone, but I'm excited for Havlat and his speed joining the Sharks. I know Heatley can be frustrating, and not utilize all of his talent, but I still liked him. My friend met him a few times and said he was a really nice guy, and I have also read that SJ teammates liked him for the most part. I understand he has some past personality issues with Ottawa, and might not be the leader/player/competitor that he could have been, but I will still wish him well in Minnesota.

San Jose wants more playoff success

So why'd they get Martin Havlat?

I love the vitriol from Sens fans about how he agreed to go to Minny but not Edmonton. It's a straight up fuck you to Bryan Murray. That's what the twat gets for taking a private matter to the media and saying a deal is done when he doesn't have the final say.

The guy's a prima-donna, and probably asked to leave. Meh. His perogative. You give a guy all the contract control, don't get all weepy when he excercises the control you gave him.

So now, he joins a long line of guys who are to blame for the Sharks playoff failures during the tenure of Big Mama Thornton. BESIDES Big Mama, of course.

I should open a betting line on who is going to be the absolute cause of failure this year. Havlat is too easy.

Really it seeemed like longer, I just know that year he was out much of the time. Don't get me wrong throughout all of this I think Havlat is a hell of a player I just think you should be cautious about his health.

He had the ankle injury in 06 and missed 19 games. Outside of the shoulder problems he's only had three stretches where he's missed five or more games in his career. Twice with groin problems, both were five or six games, and then the ankle injury. It certainly doesn't mean he won't get injured but with the shoulder problems appearing to be a thing of the past I'm not as concerned about his ability to stay healthy as some.

Fair enough, I love Marty and want to see him win the Cup. As a plus for you guys he plays his best when the games matter most.

Just to play devil's advocate, Thornton actually played great in the playoffs this year (when he wasn't flopping like a fish) and Heater was invisible.

This. I'm not a huge Thornton fan, but he had a great playoffs last year after Game 3 of the LA series.

I did, and Heatley did suck. Joe looked better by comparison, but I was counting, oh, every other playoff series he's ever played in his whole career when formulating my blanket generalization.

I think guys like Wallin, Demers and Wellwood have more to be ashamed of this year.

Yup, Joe has had a bad track record, that's for sure. That said, he did ok/average two playoffs ago (when eliminated by Chicago) and great last year. I think he's finally getting "it".

Wallin's just old and slow. He's never been much though.....he was just overpaid (at least as a Shark). Wellwood was great against LA, average against Detroit and was Gawdawful against Vancouver. I don't know what you didn't like about Demers, but I thought he was the best all around defenseman the entire playoffs for the Sharks. If we had him against Vancouver, that could have been a different series. Vancouver probably still would have won, but it could have easily been 7 games imho. The pairing of Vlasic-Demers was the best Sharks defense pairing by far.

I don't think he really agreed to go to Minnesota. He didn't really have a choice. All he was able to do was list 10 teams he didn't want to go to and Minnesota wasn't one of the 10 teams he listed. So no...it really wasn't a fuck you Bryan Murray.

The guy clearly is a "prima-donna" though. He's a gutless piece of shit that backed out of a perfect situation in Ottawa. I'm happy that it turned out the way it did though because the Sens are better off now and will continue to be in the future without him.
