I really like this deal. I have never really liked Heatley and although I never really voiced my displeasure, I wasn't happy when acquiring him even though I figured it probably made the Sharks a better hockey team. I just really liked the guys that we gave up for him a lot more.

Over at the swamp it has been rumored that Heatley had a clause in his contract in which he had until July 1st to name 10 teams that he could not be traded to. I'm guessing that Edmonton and Ottawa would be 2 of those teams. Someone over there thinks that it would be a waste to list them based on the assumption that neither of those teams would ever trade for him. I can see their point but you never know so I think he'd list them just to be sure.

man what an off season. both teams dump problem players and salaries. not really gaining anything on each side from this. Does Dany have a Center to play with on the Wild?

Mikko Koivu is a solid set up man. If Heater pays attention to Mikko's game, he might even learn to play some D.

I believe I read about that ten team clause on TSN or another reputable site. It seems legit. That is an interesting premise, do you assume that neither Wilson, Lowebellini, nor Murray would even bother picking up the phone or negotiating that trade? Or do you risk it? I would have to assume Wilson didn't even think about calling either the Sens or the Oilers on this one, but how funny would it have been for him to trade Heater to Edmonton if Heatley didn't put it on the list? Or better yet, back to Ottawa for a bag of pucks.

As soon as I heard of this trade, I immediately thought of all the Sharks fans here that hate Heater. Congrats, guys.

I actually think it's a good trade for both teams as San Jose wants more playoff success and Minny is having trouble even getting there, so regular season offense is a need for them.

Despite what a douche Heatley is.

Oh boy, I bet I'm going to have fun reading this thread later. :heh:

Don't get me wrong, Heatley is a great goal scorer. He's still got a wicked shot. The problem with him (a lot like Cheechoo even though Heatley is twice the player Cheechoo was) is that the game has sped up and he's slowed down. He relies on the Power Play too much to get his points. He's no longer the same threat he was 5-on-5 and he can't create his own scoring chances as much anymore. A lot of his goals were either by pretty set ups by Thornton or just goalmouth scrambles where he was able to knock the puck in.

He's still a productive player.....he's just worth no more than $5mil per season (and that may be pushing it) since he barely averages a point a season anymoe and he doesn't play any defense at all.

If Havlat can score 65pts per year, add some speed and play just a little defense, he's already more than the player Heatley is now and at $2.5mil less per year. That said, I still think Heatley will be a productive player for the Wild. He's just everything the Sharks don't currently need.

You guys should be happy if you get 65 games out of Havlat. Instead of Havlat on the back of his jersey it should say handle with care.

Holy shit.

I can't believe that Doug was so quick to admit his mistake. However, I don't like that Havlat is signed through 2015. If he already has injury concerns how's he going to hold up in three or four years?

Over the last 3 seasons he's averaged 77.333 games played.

During his tenure in Chicago, he averaged 57 games played. I think 65 games played is at least reasonable. He's got a reputation as injury prone and it is with merit. That said, I think sometimes our minds tend to exaggerate some things.

Havlat has been previously suspended twice for kicking - Of course, I'll look the other way if he decides to go "blades up" on Steve Ott.

You should stop the list here. Once he had his shoulder surgically fixed he's been respectibly durable. His shoulder was the main reason for him missing so many games prior to this point.
