I would expect it to have a limited NTC similar to what Couture got in his extension.

I can't imagine how much slower pavelski will look at 35 carrying a 6 mill contract gah! At least couture has a ton of upside

jesus what an overpay.... argh!! I like pavs, but he has reached his potential right now, and is not worth 6M today, let alone at age 34 when the deal expires. . This is a horrible deal and a big time overpay. Im not sure dougie will be able to move that kind of salary either in case of injury or further slowing. oh well, the loyalty is admirable.

Given the contracts being handed out the amount shouldn't be a surprise. I was hoping for 4 years with a $5.5m AAV but given the current market for UFAs years this contract isn't bad. The question is can Pavelski keep close to his current level of play through its duration.

Speculation is that after this seasons lowered cap it is going to rise again. I have a hunch it will rise quick enough that these 6M contracts won't be the boat anchors that they used to.

/And when this happens we can all wonder why the fuck we had to lose half a season of hockey.

So he's getting paid as much as Couture? Hate the cap hit. If Pavs gets $6 per, what's Jumbo going to get, $7.5? blah

I think if both Marleau and Thornton are extended they'll come in right around that $6m mark as well.

A third line center making $6M. Wow.

3rd line center who regularly logs the most ice time of any forward on the team. One of the better two way players in the game who plays on the top PP and PK units. Plus one of the best faceoff guys.

Yeah -I am sort of split on this. On one hand, he is really one of the more consistent producers on the team, so its hard not to expect he was going to get a raise for this contract. On the other hand, I just dont see him getting any faster or producing more. If these idiots put a NTC in there then they are fools. I could see keeping him for a couple of years and then trading him for some younger alternatives but if we are locked in till age 34...

His $6M per year is an instant NMC clause. :gaah:

It's been mentioned on here that the cap will take a spike upwards after the 13-14 season which can make the $6 contract for a top 6er a "standard". Until then, this is a steep price considering Couture got $6. Let's be glad(?) Logan signed his deal first. Had it been the other way around, I can see Couture demanding $7.

I know we want Pavs penciled in as the 3rd line center, but he does have top 6 talent on many teams around the league.

Let's be honest he logs that much time due to lack of options on the current roster, can't really argue face off stats wise but he seems to run into alot of trouble against bigger center men which is pretty much the entire PAC division. And it seems like most of his pk face offs are in the offensive zone as opposed to his own

He logs that much ice time because of his versitility to be effective no matter who you put him with and in any situation along with his Selke calibre two way play.

For those asking about the 13/14 cap, most estimates are $71-$72m though I have seen a couple as high as $75m.

Nah not Rules, but the fact remains he does provide a two way game that should draw more Selke consideration than it does. Pavelski is far from one of my favorite players but give him credit where it's due.

Make no mistake i dont think he's horrible he's probably the best 3rd line center in the league right now, if not top 3. I just see him as maybe defensively aware, but not selke, but i guess when you have a guy like thornton coasting on a backcheck on the PK anyone could appear to be selke caliber lol. That and he just wears down to easy and like clockwork takes 2 months off at a time, but hey maybe he comes back better then ever this year

That would be bucking the trend, which is: sign a fat contract, take a year off.

Pavs is a solid two way forward with consistency issues. Being paid $6 puts you in a class of 'good top 6er on a good team', in my book, which he is. The guy has played 1st line winger, 2nd line center, and 3rd line center. When looking at the rest of the league's recent contracts, he got paid accordingly. I mentioned a few weeks ago that Pavs could point to the contract signed by Stephan Weiss and say 'Weiss got this ($5 per), I want a more".

I thought that the contract signed by Couture would set the bar for future signings on the Sharks. Having said that, I would have said $5.5 for Pavs. For Pavs' agent to get as much as Couture...good job agent guy. In the end, it's just 500K more than I thought he'd get. Not looking forward to a 34 year old Pavs plodding around the ice.
