Who do you think were running things in the 40s and 50s when all these dumb statues got put up in the first place? Most Southern governors of the era served either in WWI, during the Interwar Period or, near the end, WWII (Wallace, Faubus etc.). They had no problem erecting monuments to traitors and it's their descendants and descendants of their followers (many of whom also served) who are walking around with lit-up lawn ornaments screaming "BLOOD AND SOIL".
I thought the majority were put up in 1910 era...there was a revival in the 50's and 60's

So, which it is? Bills passed or not?
DIEkndhUIAA8zhB.jpg

"Executive Orders" aren't bills you fuggin' plonker.

Although you may be right. I doubt any person since Reagan has done more for the people fighting for ISIS.

As pointless as I believe all this statue protesting is, I have always found it odd that there aren’t more (or any, really) statues of or street names in honour of former slaves who held public office during Reconstruction. On that, there is definitely a point to be made.

Following on with the reason the Confederate statues got put up in the first place, one would argue that there aren't any statues of those types of leaders because the black people in the 60's didn't have the kind of power it took to put up statues with the sole purpose of pissing off whitey.

Slavery debate, Civil War, lynchings, Jim Crow laws, voting rights obstruction, segregated schools, confederate flags, PCism... and on and on.

How many times do these idiots have to be wrong about what will "destroy our country and way of life" only to eventually realize they were wrong and morally bankrupt to believe it to be so?

After a couple hundred years, it's getting fucking old.

My understanding was a lot of them were put up at the start of Jim Crow and a lot were put up during the start of the Civil Rights Era. For example, Stone Mountain was started in 1916 but wasn't actually completed until 72, with much of the work occurring during the 60s.

If there's any available information as to an exact count I'm open to it. I just haven't seen any.

Oh it would definitely have come after. I just mean with all the black mayors who have served in cities like Atlanta, Memphis, Jackson etc. you'd think it woulda happened by now.

Yeah the exact number is hard to find because some started and took a long time to complete (IE Stone Mountain as BBB stated). But when you go around some of these small towns that didn't have statues prior to the 50's they magically appeared in their respected town squares.

We do love our statues!
Just think some day there will be a Trump statue along with a Trump library. :L
But it will only hold books with a reading level of the age of 3 and under along with the Art of the Deal which can only be purchased at the Library and not checked out.

It's not odd, it's intentional, and those are the statues that should be put up to replace the Confederate ones, in my opinion. It would be the closest thing to a substantive apology they could probably bring themselves to make (if they can even do that).

I have relatives in Houston.
As of yesterday, they said the wind wasn't bad, but the rain was unbelievable.
Avg annual rainfall in Houston is 50 inches. they could get that inside of a week.
