Oddly enough, I'm sitting here waiting for my lunch from a food truck looking at the ONLY confederate statue in the District.

As pointless as I believe all this statue protesting is, I have always found it odd that there aren’t more (or any, really) statues of or street names in honour of former slaves who held public office during Reconstruction. On that, there is definitely a point to be made.

Undoubtedly. But the premise of the argument, dumb as it may be, isn't exactly false.

This guy was in the US military
James Joseph Dresnok - Wikipedia
I highly doubt anyone would ever call him a US Veteran.

In theory he was but no true US Veteran would ever consider someone that was a traitor to their county as a Veteran.
That is what is so mind blowing with this whole argument and how nonsensical it is.

Who do you think were running things in the 40s and 50s when all these dumb statues got put up in the first place? Most Southern governors of the era served either in WWI, during the Interwar Period or, near the end, WWII (Wallace, Faubus etc.). They had no problem erecting monuments to traitors and it's their descendants and descendants of their followers (many of whom also served) who are walking around with lit-up lawn ornaments screaming "BLOOD AND SOIL".

Exactly I referenced that in an earlier post.

Don't forget the great "United Daughters of the Confederacy" that funded plenty of these works.
