Ohh I would damn sure rather have Julio over OBJ and heck yeah if a cap friendly deal could be done great.

Can you imagine Jules, Julio and if the let Gordon back. All we need is to draft a TE and with out run game and O Line this team get's real scary, real fast.

This.
All of this.

I just don't see it happening.
I see a draft pick, a cheap FA, Patterson and/or Dorsett and Gordon resigning with the Pats for 2020.

There really don't appear the be any FA WRs.

Maybe the Pats go TE and WR in the draft. Altough I don't like BB taking a WR

I'm Baaaackkkkk.

I did learn a few things today........

Julio Jones, Doug Baldwin, AJ Green, Antonio Brown, Mike Wallace will all be available. Why? They have all crossed over that magical age barrier of 30 years old. As the big 3-0 gets further behind, the more concern teams get about the big contract and potential slowing of the player. Hence, the patriotsheard that Julio might be available and Caserio made the call. He wasn't told that JJ was untouchable.

Jones has two years left on his contract.

Heard this today also.......Brady has told a few close friends that he will be at the OTAs and Mini-Camps this coming year.

Me thinks Brady wants a 7th Ring and that will put him and the Patriots so far and away ahead of the chasers that there will never be room for any arguments.

If he gets it, the NFL owners will offer him a $1B to retire so there will be parity.

I just don't get the mentality of chasing a ring. It's such a team oriented sport that the lack of a ring is more of a reflection of the team than any one player. Going to a team and winning a ring means you went to a team that won a ring. I get the feeling the one's contributions were part of it, but playing well on a loser while making beaucoup bucks is a pretty good thing.
Every player wants a ring. Or at least they should. It's all part of a winners attitude. I'd be skeptical of a player who didn't think a ring mattered.
If I were a player like JJ at this point in his career I'd be chasing the possibility of a ring over a couple million.
Team accomplishments are sometimes more rewarding. It's something you will share with those 52 other players, the coaches and the owners.

The only individual award that even comes close to winning a SB for me would be league MVP. Not ROY, DPOY, OPY...

I don't think Julio is what he once was. It would have to be a really good deal for ME to want to find out.
OBJ not likely a good fit for this team.
Gordon is not coming back. I hope he does well.

Can we get somebody with a little less time and baggage? (at least Gordon is young)

Maybe the Pats go TE and WR in the draft. Altough I don't like BB taking a WR

Lots of FA WRs, from top $ to low $ available. Not to mention a good crop of draft possibilities.

FAs I would take a shot $ dependent;
Tate not a roll model but fiesty as hell and wants to win.
Funchess big target that I think would work well in NE.
Tavon Austin but I think he's just a poor mans Cooks or Dorsett.
Cole Beasly love his fiestiness as well.
Fowler or Perriman I think could surprise in NE.
Why not resign Hollister?

Who do others want to see if BB goes after a WR in FA.

Well nothing jumps out at me as a wow FA move. I might agree that Funchess could work in this system was not aware he was available.

Tate is the obvious fit but I'd imagine his age and price tag would make it unlikely.

Tyrell Williams would be the guy I'd go after over Funchess if I wanted a bigger bodied guy. I'd probably look at Chris Conley before Funchess, too.

Randall Cobb would be a good fit but his injury history does not inspire confidence. Would probably have to be a prove it deal to be worth it for the Pats.

Maurice Harris has shown flashes of being a really effective slot receiver, but he will be RFA and I would only take a run at him if he's tendered at the low level (no pick compensation).

Rashard Higgins is another interesting RFA, but again I'd only want to get involved at the low level (5th).

Some other veteran depth guys to consider - Ryan Grant, John Brown, Aldrick Robinson, Bruce Ellington.

Younger guys who've never established themselves that might be worth kicking the tires on to see if McD and Brady can unlock something - Kevin White, TJ Jones, Leonte Caroo

But, yeah, there isn't anybody there that profiles as a legit #2 or potential #1/1A besides Tate wth Thomas hurt and Fitz re-signed by AZ.

Trent Brown says that he'd like to stay in New England. He considers Dante Scarneccia a father-like man. He does want to see what the market will offer and he'll listen to what the Patriots have to say.

Isaiah Wynn is returning from a torn archilles. Considering how well Brown played LT, wouldn't it be wiser to move Wynn back to RT and alternate him with Cannon? Maybe draft a true LT this year to learn behind Brown??

If they ink Brown then yes, it's also been noted Wynn can play guard and he is a tad short for T in this league. If he can play RT and LG he will damn sure have a spot on this roster

So you would prefer the career of Browns LT Joe Thomas? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Over say Nate Solder, I'd say Thomas.

I'm not saying someone should want to be a loser, just not pretend to be a winner.

So, Westbrook over Durant.

It's an interesting question. If Solder plays out his Giants contract and then retires, they both would've played 11 years, Thomas earned about $122MM, Solder would end up around 100. So not super far apart financially. So would you rather be a first ballot HOF'er, or a good player that will never get into the Hall without a ticket, but have two SB rings? Before Solder's current deal, I'd've probably said give me the money and the gold jacket, but with that extra $ in hand, I think I'd rather have the rings.

but getting back to the original topic, Would you view Joe Thomas' career differently if he signed a team friendly deal with the Patriots last year, then retired with the ring, as opposed to his current "ringless state"?

SDGuy - great example by suggesting Joe Thomas
