I never liked Lance to begin with, but they did give up a lot of draft capital & so he has draft pedigree. Some NFL team is always a sucker to try & give a player with Pedigree extra chances. Just kinda curious if this grows legs or not.
If Purdy, at the very least, helps The 49ers reach the NFC Championship then SF will have a QB controversy. Just because of the sheer draft capital The Niners won't throw Lance to the wayside because no one wants to eat a loss like that. Just because of that Trey will be given another chance unless another team offers up something to take hom off of The Red & Gold's hands.

I figure they'll trade Lance or Purdy at some point. If Purdy beats the Cowboys, it's his team. If he doesn't, I think there is a choice to be made

Whether the 49ers lose in the Divisional round or win the Super Bowl it'll still come down to what offers they receive for either player before the Draft. The 49ers can still keep both, even if the back-up will be unhappy. They're not obligated to do anything. I'd bet on both QBs still being there in August 2023.

Not obligated but Lance will lose value over time.

Yep, trade him now.
If they like Purdy and can trade Lance.

I think the idea of a GM trading a 1st for Lance at this point would be madness. He inherited arguably the best roster/coach combination in the league. Lance could still be good but I can't imagine too many people risking their jobs to bring him in

49ers gave 3 firsts to be able to draft Lance, at this time I don't see anyone risking a first to acquire him, so he'll remain a 49er. Purdy will be looking over his shoulder and Lance will be waiting for a injury to Purdy to get on the field or a slump by Purdy where the cry begins "Start Lance!". Lance has his believers in the 49er fan club.

If we were further down the draft board you would probably be right, seeing as how we are picking 4th and probably getting one of the big three qbs on the board I would say they pass.
Heard they may try to trade up.

Why would the 49ers? They have two young QB's with potential at a fraction of the cost of a normal NFL starting QB. I wouldn't worry about trading Lance until Purdy has proven himself to be the long term solution and needs a new contract in two years.

I can't see them moving him this offseason b/c they'd lose cap space by doing so. And the team has several starters coming up for resigning and Bosa needs a massive extension.

I could see a trade happening in the following offseason (2024). By then, the team will have seen a season and a half from Purdy and know for certain what they've got in him.

Waiting 2 years could be too long though. Lance is only under contract through 2024--though the 5th year option could be used to get another year. But would the team gamble on exercising the option for the sole purpose of trading him?

from the neighbor or the sidekick.
Well... @DJ wouldn't be alone in thinking that the Colts could move up...

I've never been high on Lance. He had one good season at FCS. He played one game in COVID season vs team with no scholarship players and looked like crap and somehow this translates into 2nd overall pick?
Niners swung and missed on that one, it happens… If Purdy ends up being a long time starter for them they were blessed by the football Gods, that makes up for it …

Not obligated but Lance will lose value over time.
That would depend on what value you think Lance currently has and quantifying how that value is determined based on current ability, future potential, and the probability of a team benefiting from that potential within the time-frame of the contract.

That's a good point. If someone offers more than a 1st rd pick for him, I think it would be hard for the Niners to say no. But which team would do something like that?
Well the commodes signed Wentz and the Colts signed Ryan so anything is possible but I think he will be on the 9ers next season but the issue is he needs playing time to develop and if the 9ers get a solid offer they should trade him while the value is high draft another rookie and sign a vet in case of injury.
JM 2 cents but hell Jerry won’t listen to me so ……..

What could the Niners get in a potential Lance trade? A high 1? A mid 1? A low 1? A 2 or worse?

If Houston offers the #34, I think the Niners pass. Having a potential stud insurance policy for Purdy is worth more than a high 2. Especially in the Niners’ “Win Now” status.

If Houston offers the #2, I think the Niners jump at it. I would be shocked if that happens, but at least, imho, we have defined some kind of range.
