Well, I've been know to call my step-son a "thug" for precisely what Sherman was acting like in that interview. Background here: my stepson is a 30 something black man and freely admits afterward that he is acting like a thug. He doesn't kill people or anything but he raises his voice and cusses at his mother or at my granddaughter and I don't tolerate it. I am about as far from racist as a person can get so to associate thug with the N word is wrong. I've called many a white man, native, oriental or whatever the same thing. You don't want to be called a thug Sherm? Fine, how about punk or just plain asshole for acting stupid and spouting off. Of course, it's none of my concern what he says. He is a very good football player and plays with passion on the team I cheer for but I don't excuse his behavior any more than I would if he did something terrible like others have done. And before anyone says it, freedom of speech does not apply. There are consequences and responsibilities to all of our "freedoms".

In the press conference, Sherman said he was sorry the interview had taken attention away from his teammates, but he also said he didn’t believe the response to it was warranted, especially people who labeled him a “thug” after the interview. He also said he believed “thug” is now an “accepted way of calling somebody the n word.”

There is no real implication here just a new way of using the word thug.

The word thug is constantly misused. People calling him a thug are not all racist, but they are all stupid because they dont know what a thug is.

I don't need the cops to deal with anyone's stupid ass. And all this definition crap is useless. Word definitions change day to day in this world. Like I said, use the word punk, asshole or whatever you want but don't make this about race when you act stupid on national TV and get called out. Now, do I think people are making too big of a deal over his behavior? Probably, and there certainly shouldn't be all the hate and "real" racism that has happened. I said it earlier in the year that the "chip on the shoulder" thing is getting old. It's fine when you use it to make your game better but the side-show is just annoying. It's time for Sherm to stfu and the sideline reporters need to quit searching him out for some stupid "soundbite". Of course, they succeeded in getting everybody watching and talking about it, I suppose.
