Richard Sherman Says Calling Someone a Thug Is the Same as Calling Someone the N-Word

I understand what Sherman is saying. Specifically, he is now being called a thug for his actions. And his actions were to aggressively call another player mediocre and sorry. If they called him a loudmouth or an a-hole it would make sense, but he has displayed no behavior that would make him a thug. He didn't even threaten Crabtree, everything he said was about football. So the only reason people are calling him a thug is because he is black and they disliked what he did. I agree that if he were white people would not call him a thug. I can see the parallels between that and the N word, and I understand why that would bother him.

I agree. I don't think Sherman is really a Thug -- but I do think he is really a ****.

No, it's because I am not going to let Richard Sherman dictate my vocabulary. I call people thugs, who I think are thugs. He is being called a thug because of his rant and because he's from Compton.. He is obviously being stereotyped, I agree with that. I am being contrarian because of the idiots that agree with him. Even if a few people use the word and mean it in a racist manner, that doesn't mean the majority do.

People calling Sherman a thug are stupid. I dunno about racist but I would go as far to say thug (based on it's definition) is on par with that term or white trash (more explained below).

How does trash talk = thug? Rodney Harrison who deliberately tried to injure people and admitted it along with the entire Saints defense from 2010 (or whatever it was, shows how much I care thus reinforcing the dumb who dat slogan) are thugs.

Lawrence Taylor constantly trash talked, sent coke/prostitutes to opposing teams rooms nights before the game.... is a football legend and football hero.

Sherman, who is an upstanding citizen, only makes trash talking about the game, does not take physical or personal cheap shots, does not injure people, applauds receivers like Roddy White for beating him.... is a thug.

Thug stands for: Violent, ruthless, lawless, tough (?) according to the dictionary. I don't see what Sherman says/does equal to any of that. Mike Tyson saying he's going to eat your children and biting an ear off = thug. Saying, "He's a sorry receiver" does not equal thug.

And yes based on the definition and based on who I would label as 'thugs' in the NFL, it does equal n**ger to me and/or would also be white trash.... Richie Incognito is white trash or a thug.

To all 49er fans (and other Sherman-haters):

C'mon… There are hundreds of shit talking punks in the NFL. Always have been, and always will be. This one in particular just so happens to be a part of your biggest rival team that sent your team packing in the NFCC and is now going to the Superbowl. It's understandable to feel bitter about it.
