I was wrong about Frazier as well.... He's having a hell of a season after a little regression last year.

Eerie how these guys are a little like the Bengals..... Just enough talent to suck you in -- Yet flawed enough to break your heart.

They are 8-4 since Votto came off the DL. If they can remain reasonably healthy from here on out, it's not impossible to hope for another playoff run. But if it happens surely it will end in the same way it has before. Such is the lot of the Cincy sports fan.

I thought this season would show if Frazier and Mesoraco were going to make it. Clearly they both have exceeded all expectations. Even Ludwick has done better than expected, especially recently. The bullpen, though, has been a bitter disappointment. They have probably been directly responsible for 5-7 losses. That is what is going to bring this team down in the end. Guys like Hoover and LeCure, who have been successes in the past, have totally failed this year, and they once again got nothing from Marshall. They could shore up the pen at the trade deadline, but does anyone believe they will? I know I don't.

They also need to shore up the bench. Hanahan is not coming back, and they are carrying an extra pitcher now which won't last the rest of the year. When Frazier/Votto need a day off, they have to play Santiago (most likely). That's not good.

They need to start now with other teams that are way out, and look to add a cheap guy to the bench for cash considerations or some scrub in A ball who's 25-26 or something...Eventually, this team will also need for the bench to be a minor factor to give guys a day off, especially Votto with his leg.

Hanrahan isn't very good, though he's much better than Bernadina. They need a guy who is a threat as a pinch hitter and can play 1B. The outfield is now fine now that Skippy is back and Hamilton has shown he's going to be ok offensively. Heisey is fine as the fifth outfielder and for some reason is effective as a pinch hitter even though he sucks with the bat when he starts. Skippy can also fill in at 2B, which means they don't have to use Santiago except as a late inning defensive replacement. When he fills in for Cozart at SS there's little if any loss offensively and he's nearly as good as Zach on defense. Frazier is just going to have to play every day unless that utility player they add can play 1B and 3B. There's really nobody ready on the farm, as Lutz and Soto have proven.

The problem lies mostly with having no real 1B backup.

You could live for a game with Santiago at 3B and Votto at 1B, but the problem is, when Votto is out, Frazier has been moving to 1B, and Santiago to 3B...which not only weakens the offense, but weakens the defense, as we've seen with Frazier at 1B.

The only other option right now is to simply play Pena at 1B (and he's 19 for his last 98 or something) and hope that nothing happens to Mesoraco during that game, though it would be easy enough to simply switch Pena to Catcher and bring in Votto as an emergency kind of thing for a day off.

Gotay is their best 3B option at AAA hitting .275 and 13HR's, but he's K prone with 62 in 280 AB's, which is one every 4 Ab's. But, if he's just coming off the bench, then....eh. May not matter, and it would give them someone else with at least a little pop in the bat.

Their best bet is to find a cellar dwelling team and look for a bench guy off that team that won't cost anything or at least next to nothing. I hate waiting until July because you lose a month out of it. If you know what you need, then be proactive and get out there and try to aquire it. I know that parity has meant more teams waiting to sell, but if you're a bad team, you know you're not making a run if you are honest with yourself. The Astros, the Rays, the Diamond backs, Cubs, and the Padres...not only are these teams well out of the division race, these teams are all vying to be at the bottom of the WC standings...none of these teams are going to leapfrog 10 other teams when they are already 10-11-12 games back of the WC, much less the division.

Indeed.

7-3 is a real need on this road trip...8-2 would be better.

reds are like a slightly above average looking girl.
she's just cute enough to lead you on while she's considering settling for you, until she finds someone better looking so she can dump your ass. after its all over you continue to be her friend in hopes that she might actually show a bit of spark, but you know damn well the season is over.

Maybe.

Some would say she's more like that awkward girl that is a few pounds too heavy, wears braces and has thick glasses...you never knew how good she could look because she was always so weird and didn't dress right.

Until she dropped a few pounds, ditched the glasses for contacts, and the braces removed...(reds got healthy)...and ended up being a knock-out.

Only time will tell how good this offense really is.....

The season rests on Votto and Bruce's shoulders. Period.

Both blow right now.

You guys going to get to Arrieta tonight? Is Mesoraco going to homer in his fifth straight game?

Unfortunately she is flat chested and has no money for surgery.

Joey Votto should be embarrassed..... .265.... Really? You don't hit home runs, you don't drive in runs, and you hit .265?
