Also, if we lose this game, it’s mainly on Bochy. I know we have injuries… blah, blah, blah. There are ways to manage around that. Namely, do NOT rest more than 1 impact hitter per game. You can’t have both Seager and Garver on the bench when Heim and Jung are already out. If Seager needs to rest his hand, then Garver has to be in the lineup. If Garver needs a breather, then Seager needs to suck it up and play.

This lineup is tantamount to a forfeit. Josh Smith is pathetic. Taveras and Duran are totally lost. And Huff is not a major league-level player. Over half of the lineup is just terrible.

Per Nadel if throw was on line Ruiz would have been nailed
Also Montgomery used a slide step to get to the plate quicker
Huff just has not thrown the ball well

Seager is being held out for medical reasons. This isn't Bochy being stubborn.

Then Garver should have been in the lineup. Period. No excuses. He’s not great, but he’s a major league hitter. He at least gives you a fighting chance.

Semien with yet another first pitch weakly-hit ball… stop me if you’ve heard that one before.

If Huff is going to do nothing at-bat, we might as well start Hedges and enjoy the vastly superior defense.

Smith has had the most success of any hitter today.

He has done pretty well the last few games. But yeah I bet he is sent down once Heim gets back.

I know injuries are a factor. But that’s part of being a manger- working around those injuries. If you already have 2 top guys out for a long time, and you know you have 2 or 3 more who are nursing injuries, then you need to spread out and plan on how and when to rest them. I don’t doubt Seager needed an injury day off. But with that being the case, you have to put the rest of your “best” players out there.

You can’t just tell other guys to “step up and produce” if that’s not something they’re capable of doing. Expecting the likes of Josh Smith and Sam Huff to shoulder the weight is asking too much. They’re mediocre at best.

That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of Josh Smith. He’s a .220 hitter with almost no power. One hit doesn’t change the fact that he shouldn’t be playing.
