This has been one of the strangest drafts I have seen from the Rangers. The top 2 guys are alright. The 8th and 9th picks have the stats, but they are 8th and 9th round picks and weren't ranked too high. I have never seen this many guys with high ERAs taken in the top 10 picks.

I thought we would draft a guy in the first round that would rank in our top 2 or 3 prospects. I don't see Malcolm Moore breaking our top 10.

Only one high school kid was picked in our first 10 picks. That seems odd, but I know the draft has started moving that way.

Adrian Beltré will throw out the first pitch before the All-Star Game tomorrow.

He'll be accompanied by Fergie Jenkins, Pudge Rodríguez, and Nolan Ryan.

I think it would take a very rough stretch to convince CY to sell. We probably should be sellers, but that upcoming series against the White Sox has the potential to make us look a lot better than we are. If we beat the Orioles once and the White Sox three times, I think that convinces CY to be a buyer. That is a very likely scenario.

I’m going to wait and see how they do. I couldn’t believe it when they drafted Carter in the second round, when they drafted him.

Carter and many others in that draft were a unique bunch. There wasn't much time to get much scouting done because of Covid. These guys have all been fully scouted.

Jeff Wilson has this note on one of our draft picks. This must be what sold Kip Fagg on him.

"This tidbit on Susac from the Arizona media guide: Proud owner of a 4.91/5 rating as a DoorDash driver with over 1,000 deliveries complete."

Bochy is finally moving Semien out of the leadoff spot. Well, for the AS game anyway.

From Shawn McFarland:

Sometimes during the MLB draft, Adam Lewkowicz said, you get “picked” when another team selects the player you’d sought after as you prepare to make yours. And, other times, your top choice falls right into your lap.

The second day of the 2024 MLB draft brought the latter for Lewkowicz and the Texas Rangers on Monday.

Lewkowicz, the club’s director of amateur scouting operations, said that Rangers third-round draft pick Casey Cook was at the top of the organization’s board when the draft resumed on Monday. Texas selected the North Carolina outfielder with the last pick of the third round and the 103rd selection overall.

Cook, a 21-year-old redshirt sophomore, slashed .341/.431/.605 with 18 home runs for the Tar Heels this past spring and ranked No. 164 on Baseball America’s pre-draft big board. Baseball America wrote that “his upside is more limited and he’ll go as far as his pure hitting ability takes him,” and that he has “fringy tools but an extremely advanced hitting approach and consistent lefty swing.”

Lewkowicz believes that Cook, a primary left fielder, has the upside to play second base in professional baseball.

“Casey’s got elite zone control, he sees the ball at a very high level,” Lewkowicz said. “Grinder at bats, but the power really came this year ... we think we got an impact person as well, so we’re excited.”
