Series Thread: Rangers Play Three Games in San Diego July 28-30

A report that the Guardians could make Aaron Civale available. I can't imagine that but if they did I would be all for adding him to our rotation.

Yeah, I have seen his name mentioned a few times before over the last couple of weeks. He was one of four players I mentioned a couple of weeks ago and wondered if that would make us good enough. Civale, Alzolay, Chris Martin, and Bellinger were the four I thought might be the right combination.

At this point, with our bullpen and hitting the way it is, I am not sure if Civale and Verlander both would be enough

I wouldn't mind trying that. That would be quite the starting rotation and that confidence in having Scherzer and Verlander along wtih Civale and Montgomery might rub off on the other pitchers. Would have plenty of guys to stick in the pen.

With Syndergaard starting against Houston tonight I expect a Houston victory. I will be shocked if they don't as bad as Syndergaard has pitched.

With the Rangers having added two starters, we should be finding who the odd man out is pretty soon (unless I missed that info already).

They made good trades, but I don't think they are going to make the postseason. So, are they really good trades? I still think they would have been wiser to have been sellers instead of buyers. Of course, I am always happy to see them making mistakes, if indeed they have made mistakes.

They are only 5 games back and it’s the end of July. Remember when the Rangers were 8 back at the beginning of August and won the division a few years ago. Not saying that will happen but anything can happen.

There’s a lot of young guys on the team that have never been in a MLB pennant race and have the pressure of protecting first place for almost the whole season. Some may be pressing and freezing up. This is nothing right now compared to September baseball. After Tuesday we’ll know what the team looks like going into the final two months.

Don’t know but it’s a possibility. Which could be 7 with Eovaldi or one of the 1st 6 becomes the odd man out. Bochy tells them you’re pitching for your life this season when he returns

Yes anything can happen and that is what they are banking on. In their situation, the difference in years to come between them being sellers this year versus being buyers, can be huge.

The Angels HAVE to go for it all right now. Shohei is almost a certainty to leave this off-season unless the Angels make a deep playoff run. And even then I think he leaves. Arte isn't trading him so I expect more moves from the Angels. EVERYTHING is about winning this season for them.

Eovaldi - 3.70
Dunning - 3.90
Montgomery - 2.95
Bradford - 4.20
Scherzer - 4.05
Gray - 4.50
Heaney - 5.50
Perez - 5.50

Maybe at some point but we need to put it to Dunning, Gray, Heaney & Perez that they’re auditioning for a rotation spot. One or 2 will lose their spot in the rotation and maybe even their spot on the team depending on their performance while Eovaldi is on the IL

he has but all of them have struggled badly over the last month as have Gray, Heaney and Perez. The last 2 are pitching for the rest of the season the others are pitching for where in the rotation they’ll be

Has Dunning struggled badly though? He's been pretty good in 7 of his last 10 starts and at least one of the three runs he gave up against SD was because the umpire called a couple of pitches within the zone as balls, leading to walks.
