I guess they could do that and use Dahl for the backup in CF, when Dahl isn't injured. Davis isn't much of an outfielder though. He has only started 14 games in LF over the past three years combined. He has never started anywhere in the OF except LF so he isn't much of a backup outfielder.

Granted, I am a complete layman when it comes to the draft, but everything I understand about where the Rangers are and the players in this draft, I can't understand why analysts are predicting Lawler. I keep reading "There's no Strasburg/Harper" in this draft, which I take to mean the top few players are great, but none of them really stand out as insane, rare talents. That would be the only reason I'd think the Rangers would take a position player over a pitcher, and if Lawler isn't that level of player, why choose that over a pitcher?
