I like Goose Gosselin. But good Lord, I listened to him this morning and he's still fretting over the John Smoltz trade in 1987/88, when referencing our most recent trade for Hamels.

It was almost 4 decades ago Goose, let it go man. Been a bunch of trades of "minor league, can't miss, prospects" since, and worked out just fine for the team giving up the prospects buddy.

In the chat session this morning someone asked Evan if the new Elvis is for real. Here is Evan's answer.

Well, I will address this at length later this week in print, but here's the short version: About 10 days ago, coach Tony Beasley noticed something in Andrus' defensive setup that ended with him closing off his shoulder just before the pitch. Made him less able to go to the glove side. It was an easy fix. That led to Andrus making some sizzling plays at short. Similarly, it also may have opened Elvis up to more suggestion. He was willing to try a bigger leg kick to start his swing, something that Dave Magadan had hoped for. He carried that into games and has started driving the ball to left field. That led to more times on base, which leads to more running for Elvis. It's all a process, but this 10-day stretch is as good as he's looked maybe since 2012. He's energized and involved and when that happens, there is a big carryover effect throughout the clubhouse.

I wonder how much of that is holdover from Ron "I ain't changing shit" Washington's influence.

EA usually has a good second half after a few months of shitting the bed. I expect he gets back to batting close to .270 over the next 55+ games or so.

If that's true hell pretty much get right back to his usual form.

Yeah my gripe with EA this year, and really last as well, is the errors. His defense has regressed. He still will make the terrific play from time to time, but its the lack of focus on defense. Like his lack of focus on the bases, but then again that is what we have come to expect from Elvis. His batting has been about the same the last couple years, just wish he would get a little more pop and hit better w RISP.

Murph I have been concerned for sometime about Elvis's ability to focus. Having fun and enjoying the game is fine but he takes it to the limit. For a young man his age, I expect to see an increase in maturity and less horse play. That is my take on Elvis and until he matures I really do not see him able to focus the way we hope he would. With his wealth and contract, he can pretty much do as he pleases and hope is he will mature and become a classic short stop.
