From Jeff Wilson:

Right-hander Joe Barlow and left-hander John King have already been recalled and might be logging imporant innings this weekend. The cupboard still isn’t bare down there.

Let’s take a look at some potential bullpen help that might be able to help while struggling big-league relievers try to figure things out or help arrives at the trade deadline.

On the 40-man

Yerry Rodriguez: The right-hander has already been in the majors this season, pitching in four games. He profiles as a late-innings power pitcher with upper-90s velocity and has been working in high-leverage situations with Triple A Round Rock. Opponents are batting only .108 against him.

Cody Bradford: He likely wouldn’t be used late in games, but allowing him to work as the long man, such that it is, would allow fellow left-hander Cole Ragans to slide into more meaningful innings. Ragans sat 96-98 mph with his fastball Monday, and the Rangers might be able to find a way to leverage that velocity. Bradford was added to the 40-man roster Monday before his MLB debut.

Taylor Hearn, lhp: A look at his numbers would suggest that Hearn has figured something out at Round Rock. The left-hander entered Friday with a 0.57 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings. He has walked eight batters and plunked three others. When Hearn is throwing strikes, he can help any MLB team. That has been a dicey proposition since his MLB debut, though.

Non-40 man

Chase Lee: This right-hander does things a little differently, with almost a submarine arm angle. He throws hard for his motion, with his fastball reaching into the lower 90s, and there is deception with his style of pitching. He can log multiple innings, giving the Rangers some depth. Lee worked as a closer in college at Alabama and has some closing experience in the minors.

Grant Anderson: The Rangers thought they might lose Anderson, a right-hander, in the Rule 5 draft. His arm slot isn’t as low as Lee’s, but Anderson throws sidearm to create deception. He throws a sinker at 90-92 mph, and his slider is an effective offspeed offering. Anderson is really tough against right-handed hitters. A 21st-around pick in 2003, Grant would be a victory for the amateur scouting department.

Jacob Barnes: The Round Rock reliever with the most time in the big leagues is Barnes, who has logged 5.071 years of MLB service time. But they haven’t been very good years of late with ERA’s above 5.00 dating to 2019, the last season he logged more than 30 innings in the majors. The right-hander has been good with Round Rock, though, with a 2.41 ERA but also a 1.66 WHIP.

More from Jeff Wilson:

Glenn Otto/Spencer Howard: Otto and Howard are both on the 60-day injured list and have been rehabbing in Arizona. They’re close to beginning rehab assignments and should be candidates for the MLB roster. They will have to be added to the 40-man roster whether they are in the big leagues or not.

Otto was a candidate for the Opening Day roster, but didn’t pitch particularly well in spring training before he was hurt. The Rangers think his stuff will play up in shorter stints. Ditto for Howard, who has the velocity advantage with his fastball.

I sure don’t want to see Howard back here.

Yeah, he needs to be DFAed.

Otto probably needs to be starting pitching depth at Round Rock.

Nice outing for Perez. Glad he has righted his ship. I think it was Jeff Wilson who mentioned that of all the pitchers, Perez probably benefited the most from the extra day of rest the Bradford start gave everyone. He mentioned Perez pitching in the WBC as the reason.
