what still surprises me is we're doing this with a regular catcher hitting .141 and a regular right fielder hitting .199 and a bench with .185, .194, and .204 averages.

One mystery is two guys who can bat from the left side - in Eaton and Grandal - have to play through injuries - instead of shut down until they are well. Eaton's a gamer, but he can't keep up with most fastballs these days - and Grandal is doing the altra practical thing to do and that's walk, but he is definitely suffering defensively as a catcher. Grandal playing through his knee injury - tells you all you need to know of what the Sox think about Zach Collins - who also bats on the left side, or Mercedes as a Catcher.
