That was the first ESPN exodus group. I think they left ESPN in about ‘05 or so. We are the second ESPN exodus group. We got here in ‘10

There were some epic threads here back in the day. And the Mouse Board (ESPN) was like the wild west sometimes.

Periodically, I read some old posts (when I have a lot of time on my hands and am bored) and add names to my list of former posters. Yesterday, I thought I'd update my list I created in 2017 and so here who I see still posting or lurking (guessing on that one) here.
Regulars (11): filosofy29, Stokes1931, calsnowskier, tzill, msgkings322, SF11704, Sandisfan, jeep99tj, LHG, pachyderm, stanfordthemanford
Semi-regulars (5): Robotech, Hangman, Pattersonca65, Mays-Fan, moxie
Lurkers (2): Giantsmojo, shrksfn9192 (the Hoop doesn't show who is in a thread any longer but these two were former regulars who don't post any longer but still are active on the Hoop. I assume they come by from time to time)

Lastly, I'd like to list those who have disappeared from the forum this year (a "In Memorium" if you will, just hope its only for the sake of this site and not for life):
SFGRTB (regular, joined 8/11/10, last active 4/20/21, last post 4/1/21)
Toolrulzz (semi-regular, joined 3/15/11, last active 3/18/21, last post 12/22/18)
BeerMe (semi-regular, joined 7/16/11, last active 4/7/21, last post 4/1/21)
Marco Polo (semi-regular, joined 3/7/12, last active 7/15/21, last post 3/30/21)

How nice to do an "In Memorium" on All Saints Day. :D

I don't know if anyone remembers, but back on the Mouse board, there were some regular Dodger fans posting. One of them was DFaninWisc. After one of the seasons, his wife came on the board and posted that he had passed away suddenly. He seemed like a good dude, though his choice of baseball fandom was sketchy.

Ha, I didn't even catch that! Isn't a prerequisite for sainthood being a Giants' fan?

I think I remember you all mentioning that story before. That is cool that his wife would do something like that. With all the grief she was dealing with, she would take the time to let those he shared baseball know about his passing.

And most likely the cause of death...

Just saying.

:noidea: Apparently, he decided to stop posting at the end of the 2019 season and only lurked through the 2020 season.
I'm probably in the minority on this, but I think its nice, if life causes you to leave the forum, to let everyone know so we can at least say goodbye. But that is assuming something sudden didn't happen that forced an exit.

A real interesting posting ... in my opinion there aren't really many reasons why one leaves a forum board ... especially a team forum board ..
1. Sadly you are no longer physically able to post. A few possibilities exist here.
2. You have a outright war with another board member and call it quits. I don't see that happening on this board.
3. You find another board more suitable to you. Doubt this as well. Not too many other Giant boards out there. Atleast active ones.
4. You lost interest in the team and left the board. Not probable. Most fans are forever ...

For me ... this board is a lifeline of sorts ... I live in NY and don't have a handful of SF fans to talk baseball with. Almost all home games are too late for me to actually follow. The GameDay threads bring the game to me. It's a great feeling to be part of something bigger than just yourself
Just love this board ....

Not particularly. There are 4 former members who we have at least an idea why they left…

GP - He specifically left because he couldn’t stand Hammer. But he did say that Hammer was really only the excuse he was grabbing on to. He said he spent too much time here and wanted to move on.

Heath - I contacted him through emails shortly after he went MIA and he told me he moved to SLO with his family and opened a family business, so he didnt have the time for the site any longer.

Colin - He had some login issues that Hammer was either unable or unwilling to fix for him. He showed back up under an alt a few days later to give us a heads up he was leaving. The account issues, like with GP, were really only the excuse he used to finally move on.

Matt (PackersGiantsKings) - He actually became a professional baseball writer, so hanging out on a team forum is probably the last thing he wants to do in his off time.

I think someone can move on just because they are aren’t as interested in the forum concept any longer.

I agree with the above, but none of it explains GP, who left simply because he didn't have the time.

Miss that guy.

My cable provider dropped the Giants channel (?SportNetBayArea?) during the off-season last year (because SNBA wanted to gouge a ton of money out of them) so I saw very few games this year.

A new list of those who have disappeared in the past year:
GiantsPackersChamps2011 (regular, joined 8/14/11, last active 5/25/21, last post 5/25/21; he disappeared before but made a brief comeback in 2021)
Giantsmojo (semi-regular/lurker, joined 8/16/10, last active 4/23/22, last post 7/6/16)
Kendal (semi-regular/lurker, joined 9/28/10, last active 1/31/21, last post 4/12/19)
shrksfn9192 (semi-regular/lurker, joined 12/4/10, last active 5/29/22, last post 5/5/22)
SF11704 (semi-regular, joined 9/16/10, last active 9/29/22, last post 9/29/22)

I may be premature on placing SF11704 on this list. He may just have decided to sit out the offseason and spring training.

Matt is a professional now, so I forgive him for distancing from us. He still checks in from time to time.

11704 probably just took the off season off. He is a senior member of our clique, so there is a possibility of the “worst case scenario”, I assume, but I trust we will see him back in a month or so.

SFGRTB has now been gone for almost 2 years. He was a real asset, and I miss him. I assume he has just entered post-college life and moved on. Best wishes to him.
