Poster Trends

Gentlemen (and any ladies reading this as well),

I've had some down time this past week and so I thought I'd poke around our esteemed forum for the Giants to figure out how many posters we've had over the course of the past 7 years and how many have left. Now there was no way I could look at every single thread that has been written over this time frame so my numbers are by no means anywhere close to being full reflective of the posters who've come and gone. I tried to look at a few threads from each year and counted only posters who seemed to be Giants' fans. Trolls and random visits from other teams' fans have not been counted. So, with that, here is what I found out:

In the past 7 years, regulars and those who've posted on occasion has totaled at least 62 posters.

Of those 62 posters, 33 has joined in 2010, mainly in mid August.
Another 13 posters joined in 2011.
From there, the numbers drop to single digits, 5 in 2012, 6 in 2013, 2 in 2014, 1 in 2015, 2 in 2016 and none in 2017 (so far).

I mainly wanted to see how many have disappeared from this forum. The spark behind the research has been the occasional talk about the forum slowly dying and the number of posters that have left. Of the 62 posters I found on this forum, 20 seem to be regulars, semi-regulars or lurkers this year. They are:

Stokes1931, calsnowskier, SFGRTB, msgkings322, 1phlapdown, LHG (post poster ever!), stanfordthemanford, SF11704, Mays-Fan, shrksfn9192, Hangman, dredinis21, williewilliejuan, Marco Polo, Sandisfan, Pattersonca65, fullxtension, filosofy29, Robotech and moxie.

I'll post the names of those who have left us in the next post.

I just realized I counted two posters twice. There are total of 60 posters that I found.

Interesting. I have no idea how you were able get this data without some kind of mining tool, but bravo.

A lot of names I had completely forgotten about. A few I am surprised to hear are banned (Broncos was banned? Really? He seemed WAY too chill ever get banned).

I just dug around. I'd go into a thread and look at the names of the posters and click on the link that brought the pop out screen with a summary. That gave a link to look at the full member information, and since most of them last posted on this forum, I was easily able to see when their last post occurred. It took some time, but that was mainly in trying to sample a lot of different threads over 7 years. I'm sure I missed quite a few names, mainly ones that probably spent a few months here and left (examples of those I found, such as SFGore21 and PierParkin, posters who were regulars for what little time they were active on this site but disappeared as quickly as they came, suggest that there were others).

As for the bans, I am just guessing. I don't know if there are other reasons why one cannot see a poster's profile any longer. I am just assuming it is due to being banned.

I should also mention that a few of the names I listed in not being around anymore maybe should be considered lurkers. tzill still feels too new to be listed in that group but I get the feeling he may be gone for good. Hope I'm wrong. Kendal posted early in the season, making still lurking in our threads. I know I've seen Giantsmojo in the "Users Who Are Viewing This Thread" a couple of times.

Also, in my searches, I found gp's final post. One of the only (maybe the only. xxERICSMITHXX indicated in one of his last posts that he just earned his JD but his post was focused on hopefully spending more time here as a result, which obviously didn't happen. A couple of other posters' final posts were in the midst of some tense threads but they gave no other indications that they were going to leave) posters to explain his reason for walking away. I understand his sentiment. I felt like it was somewhat similar to why I walked away in 2010. However, obviously, I changed my mind and came back to the ESPN boards (I think in 2012) and then, ultimately, to here in 2015. I do leave open the idea that I may choose to do so again someday but not now. I've had more time recently to post here, but I'll just cut back on posts when life gets busier.

I THINK tz will be back. When he left, he said he was just taking the year off annd would be back. He has popped his head in from time to time.

GP is gone. He stopped by once after he left and said he was just spending too much time here and that coupled with his utter hatred of Hammer meant he was done with the place.

Colin had some login issues and he basically bailed after a little headache with Hammer. My read on that situation was that he was ready to move on and used that situation as an excuse.

Heath started a biz with his wife and decided to cut out this board to concentrate on work and family.

sfsportfan got the boot after calling out Hammer for his BS on another board (still here on the hoop). This was actually the cause of my getting the boot from the admin forum. I felt Hammer baited SF into a fight then booted him after he reacted. I told Hammer I thought the situation was BS so he booted me from the admin forum.

Heath definitely seemed like a good dude. He is one of only two people on this board I have had contact with IRL. When he disappeared, I got his email from Hammer and reached out to him to make sure he was OK. That’s when I found out about his biz and such. He definitely seemed like a good dude.

He had a stated objective of destroying the Giants board at Disney.
