From the Doobster's perspective

-our goaltending is iffy
-our defense is atrocious
-we lack forward depth
-we can't score greasy goals
-we have no cap space

These aren't signs of a good team. These are signs of a very overrated teams. Won't be able to address these problems by just firing the coach & playing the kids. It's going to require a 1 year commitment to rebuilding. All I'm asking for is 1 off year so we could get our house in order. Hardly unreasonable.

What does this even mean? How would you do that in real life? Trade everyone away? Then what? How do you take one year off without taking 3 years off?

It's the Eastern Conference. Rebuilding shouldn't take anymore than 2 seasons. It'll be even quicker if we land Connor McDavid.

So another star? We already have two, and we need to tank so we can get another one?

So we're taking two years off now, not just one. Or are we just tanking so we can get McDavid, whom we don't need?

McDavid is totally worth tanking for & given our clout in the league as well as McDavid's desire to play here, it will be a match the commissioner will gladly make. We didn't need Sid or Mario either but it was really nice having them along anyways. Same with McDavid.

Sid
Geno
McDavid

That's 3 dominant lines no matter who the wingers are.

We already have Sid and Malkin, sorry but tanking for McDavid is a plain old moronic proposal.

Sid & Geno aren't enough, obviously. We need a 3 headed monster.

Think of our Cup teams...

Lemieux - Francis - Trottier

Crosby - Malkin - Staal

We always won with 3 top line centers.

Crosby - Malkin - McDavid is the way.

BTW I love how everyone is acting like rebuilding has to be a long term process. Only has to last 2 years tops. Nothing wrong with rebuilding.

Mainly because your arguments seem to revolve around actually tanking (to get the #1 pick), which is next to impossible with this team without completely tearing it apart. And then rebuilding really fast, which isn't easy when you just had a team finish last.

Everyone is objecting because your expectations make little sense when taken together.

LOL...we have better than Staal now in Sutter.

I see Letang was injured in games 6 and 7...hand and foot broken. Dude is untradeable with his injury history. Hasn't played in 60% of the last 212 games.

I am telling you...make him a winger. Get rid of Neal...problems solved.

Letang is a lot more valuable as a defenseman. If he's going to play to his contract, it will have to be on the blue line.

It's pretty easy to figure out the Pens' problem - too much money tied up in too few players. $40 mil/yr tied up in 6 players: Malkin, Crosby, Neal, Letang, Martin, Fleury. You can't win like that. Chicago's window will close after next season as well when Toews and Kane will need to be paid Crosby/Malkin+ money.

Didn't the Avalanche get the first pick last season & come up to the Pens' level in just a season? There are several other examples of teams achieving this feat in this league of parity.

We could trade him as long as we expect nothing in return which is fine by me.

Sid & Geno are well worth it, Neal is good for the money, & Martin/MAF's contracts are expiring after next season. Really the only problem is Letang. We need to get rid of him ASAP!

They followed the same example I say we follow. Get the #1 draft pick, get a new coach, & we're back on track in no time.

How many top draft picks have the Pens gotten when they sucked and how many cups? one...

I am telling you, take Letang (French for fragile) and make him a winger. He won't be missed on the D. Still have Maata and Martin to move the puck, and maybe can afford Nisky too

Blackhawks, Kings, Bruins, & Canadians all had to suck before they got good. We had to suck before we got good. Just been so long since we sucked that it's time to suck again. Let's not think like the Flyers or else 34 years from now, we'll be telling our grand kids how once upon a time the Penguins uses to win Cups, just like Flyer fans tell their grand kids today.
