How many top draft picks have the Pens gotten when they sucked and how many cups? one...

I am telling you, take Letang (French for fragile) and make him a winger. He won't be missed on the D. Still have Maata and Martin to move the puck, and maybe can afford Nisky too

Even as a winger he's not worth that money. We have to find a way to get rid of him. That has to be the Pens' top priority. More important than replacing Bylsma, we must rid ourselves of Tang's contract.

He'd be a 30 goal scorer and 40 assist guy at winger...make it so!:suds:

I say we wait for Shero to land a new job & deal him there. That's Shero's diamond in the rough. Maybe he'll take Tang off our hands?

:noidea::L

I'm fine with him being a winger, sort of sick as him as a dman, just sick of him in general. Besides, we do need someone who shoots right on our top 2 lines.

He had 11 goals and 11 assists this year in 37 games as a D man. Dude can handle the puck and can score. I dare say he'd be unstoppable on a line with Crosby and Kunitz.

I'm all for it scouty, you got me on board for that. As long as we still tank for Connor McDavid.

Lines:

Kunitz-Sid-Letang
Neal-Malkin-Duper
Bennett-Sutter-Stemp
Megna-Goc-Vitale

Gibbons plays for Bennett because he's so fragile that taking his socks off he will break something.

Didn't the Avalanche get the first pick last season & come up to the Pens' level in just a season? There are several other examples of teams achieving this feat in this league of parity.

Plenty of counter examples. Not sure the exception is what we are going for. Plus that wasn't a playoff team it was an ok team that went to terrible then up to good. And most of the key players are the same from 2011-2012 team that is ok.

How do you turn a team like the Penguins, who have consistently finished 4th or above, into one competing for a top draft pick without a major blowup? Unless you plan on injuring half the team for long stretches, and that didn't even work this year.

There isn't a manufactured way to do what you are saying, it happens naturally sometimes though.

All we need are for Sid & Geno to fake injuries & we're lottery bound. Won't be that hard to tank.

Imagine if we didn't sell it when we had a chance @ Mario or Sid.

There is a pretty fundamental difference there.

The two years before we got Crosby, we were second to last in the Eastern Conference, then last, and the last time we had finished above .500 was three years prior.

For Lemieux, we only had four winning seasons in franchise history, and the most recent was five years prior.

It's not the same. Stop trying to act like it is.

Once every decade or so, the Pens create their own destiny. Destiny is knocking once again. We would be fools to not take advantage.

5 years from now, Connor McDavid will be the face of the NHL; in fact, I say he will be the NHL. Might as well have him be a Penguin.

The only way they will ever get him is if they trade up in the draft.
