I hope the Big Ten drops the tv ban hammer on them. This is going to be worse than the death penalty.

I know that I am kind of the "college football guy" over here on the NHL board, so I want to clarify how big of a dal this is.

It seems like only double what happened to USC but it is harsher because of this:

1. USC could sell players on eventually building up to a national title game or big time bowl game. PSU's incoming and current classes have zero chance of ever being in a bowl game and that is a tough pill to swallow for top notch kids. The fact that they have the right to leave without punishment will lead to at least 20% of the current players leaving.

2. Add into this the fact that PSU is in transition to a totally new coaching staff that has to start anew. The old guard is gone and the stature with it. The team will suffer on the field a lot.

3. PSU will only be allowed to bring in 15 players each year instead of 25 for the next 4 years. They have zero room for error.

The team is going to be really bad by the last couple years of this punishment, like 4-8, 5-7 bad, and THEN they can try and rebuild, but rebuild with zero past success with these coaches and zero rep. This will hurt for much longer than the 4 years of the punishment.

The program is headed back to the pre-Paterno era and it should be.

In 2010 Penn State played Ohio State in a game both sides have now vacated.

I am personally claiming victory for this game

I dunno...it's not nearly as harsh as I thought it was going to be, however we will truly see the damage in the coming weeks. Already a few big names de-committing from the '12 class.

I wonder how Terry Pegula feels about the 85 million bucks he donated to PSU a couple of years ago.

IMO, this is significantly worse that a 1 year death penalty.

I was under the impression that there was more to a "death penalty" than the mere surrender of a season. I thought scholarships were involved too? I dunno, I know it's not pretty. I do hope that the next few years are humbling, and maybe this will deter the party boys...doubtful, but maybe.

I mean, that was just to the hockey program, which will be starting it's inaugural year in the NCAA this year I believe.

or at least calmn it down a little.. most of the people i know that went to PSU have a 'happy valley is the greatest place on earth and nothing can touch it' mentality.. its very unbecoming.
