OT: PSU, Death Penalty?

Penn State should withdraw from football this season, and their players should be free to transfer to other NCAA schools without penalty. If it were up to me I'd shut down the football program for at least 5 years. Yeah you're not making any money on it, but so what? There needs to be some time for these wounds to heal before Penn State plays football again. IMO

I just can't fathom how the program can go on at this point. It was rotten from the top down, in the most evil and vile way. It should be ended immediately, indefinitely.

I voted Death Penalty because I think that's what they should get. I have little faith in the NCAA however, because they have proven time and again that they are a joke.

What happened not only ruined dozens upon dozens of lives, but many families will be seriously changed -- for generations. And that's no exaggeration. Abuse victims (some, not all) have a tendency to perpetuate the cycle of abuse. Not necessarily sexual abuse, but they often times have anger management issues, physically abuse their own spouses/children, suffer from depression, have high suicide rates...you get the point. Too many people at Penn State turned a blind eye to this. And for what? To protect the integrity of the football program? Football? Really?

Sorry if I'm a downer. I work in counseling/psychology and I see this all too often.

I know there are people who will say the current players & coaches shouldn't be punished for what happened, but that didn't stop the NCAA from punishing USC for what Reggie Bush did.

Penn St. deserves the DEATH PENALTY. Paterno & those above him tried to push it under the rug & hoped Sandusky would stop & the whole thing would just go away. They were AFRAID to face this head on because they were afraid of press. Guess what Penn St. it would have been much better for the school if you hadn't protected Sandusky. Now Penn St. must face serious consequences for it's actions, & the school will ALWAYS have a TARNISHED image.

I do feel terribly sorry for the hundreds of thousands of alumni of Penn State and the students who are there right now. They had nothing to do with this and likely had zero knowledge that this was going on. There is a group of apologists that can kiss my ass, but the vast majority of these people are appalled and horrified by this story.

The name of the school that is linked to them has been labelled with a stigma now, of no fault of their own, and I feel really bad for them.

I totally get that everyone affiliated with the school is not to blame for this. But for people who act nonhalant about this, and act as if those that are disgusted by this are acting "silly", they can go choke to death.

If I had to take a guess, I would say that He was referring to the poll. I myself am disgusted by the situation, but I still don't really fuckin care, call me callus if you want, But if this wasn't a prestigious school no one here would give 2 flying fucks one way or the other..What about all the thousands of kids going through this shit daily? Is any one in this thread actually doing something in real life to help combat this stuff so it doesn't happen again? Beyond not raping little kids? I didn't think so and you can include me on that list too..Step up and be a part of the solution in life before you start complaining about the problems..

I've always hated Penn State...I've always disliked Paterno...because hate is a strong word, and I don't think I've actually "hated" another human being... but Joe was guilty...he's not here to defend himself anymore...but his legacy has been changed forever...and so has Penn State's ...I don't believe there is any chance that Penn State recieves the death penalty..although I can't argue that they don't deserve it. I think there will be prison time for others involved...Paterno got kind of lucky..he died....there are worse thing in life than dying...things like watching your life's work and personal ethics crash around you in a web of lies. Paterno didn't live to see this... he got lucky.

That's the impression I always had of him as well. I don't follow CFB real close but it always "seemed" like Paterno was one of the coaches that most people would want their son playing for. Boy was I wrong.

There are some great comments here and it's a damn shame so many years of building a good reputation can come crashing down so fast and hard.

FTW, To defend or even marginalize what happened because a person went to PSU or is a fan of there's is flat out fucking WRONG.

If you are inferring that I am an 'apologist', you have it wrong 46. I have stated on multiple occasions on this site how bad this is, and how far reaching the guilt is across the administration. I was soused when I made the 'silly shit, here' comment, but it contains a grain of truth: I don't think anything approaching the death penalty is going to occur here. No competitive advantage was gained by this whole awful thing, and I don't see a valid legal basis for that type of sanction happening.

The Freeh report was like a tsunami hitting the university, after the earthquake last year. What do you do? You take whatever is coming to you, and move on. The principal bad actors are gone. Hopefully more heads will roll. There was a press conference yesterday, and the BoT is enacting 100+ new accountability regulations to keep something like this from happening again (though it's unlikely someone with Sandusky's depth of evil would ever rise to that type of position again). Hopefully the right people are in place now, and PSU will emerge as a better institution.

There are ways to combat the problem that do not involve fists flying. Volunteer as a big brother, or work with groups that help the children. Too many people have blood lust in this and forget about the actual victims. Prison will take care of the punishment. People need to focus on the people left reeling.

Your focus should be on the victims and helping them try and rebuild, not on crushing skulls.

It's wrong no matter who does it or where it takes place. There is on thing for sure, I SURE AS HELL WOULDN'T"T STAND BY AND WATCH IT HAPPEN WITHOUT DOING SOMETHING !!!
