Does this tour end in a gas chamber?

No.

Being totally serious, the camp is actually very tastefully done, considering the subject matter. There's only a small bookstore and a cafe. No t-shirts saying "I went to Auschwitz-Birkenau and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" or anything like that.

The Auschwitz side has been converted into a museum with information on the different groups that were persecuted, timelines, history, and some of the artifacts.

The Birkenau side (the extermination camp part) has a couple of the dorm buildings re-built, some monuments and such, but not much else. You just experience the scope and magnitude of the place. The gas chambers and crematoria were demolished as the Nazis fled, but they weren't totally destroyed. They are cordoned off from the public though, for obvious reasons.

Or no bars close by that sell shirts saying "I got gassed at Auschwitz" Eh?

"Is it just me, or was the landscaping at the entrance so genocidally sensitive?" haha. I kid, I kid.

I'm sure it was a really cool experience, just like visiting a battlefield. It's the history there that makes it powerful, positive or negative.

And no, Boss, I've never been to Japan.

Never been there.

Not sure that was the answer you were looking for :sorry:

Looks like I need to go now so I can tell you guys about it.

Hey sabresfan, I'm going to be headed down your way in a week or so for a while. Hows the weather been? I'm going to SC near the Georgia boarder.

HOT!

Mid-nineties in Charlotte projected at least through middle of next week. High humidity too, plus some days with dew points in the mid and upper 70s (aka, suffocating).

We had a couple days reprieve last weekend with highs in the 70s and low 80s only, but back to the shit that is a Charlotte summer now.

I've heard very good things about Costa Rica from numerous people, I think it could well be worth checking out (beautiful scenery and not too expensive).

Ironically not much different from what we are having. The low was 76 last night and the dew points around 70. Tomorrow they are talking mid to upper 90's. I just hope it cools down before I leave.

Gotha buddy. I will be traveling with my sister and brother in law so we will see. I'm flying back so obviously it has to be on the way down.

If you could PM the directions I'd appreciate it. I know where the exit is but what direction?

Thanks
Steve.
