He was in Baltimore for a while filming Cry Baby. During that time my wife worked in a popular bar in the arts district where John Waters would hang out often with famous friends. As my wife left one night Johnny was sitting on her car and when she asked him to leave he said "I'm Johnny Depp". She asked to get off her car and he said "but I'm Johnny Depp". Finally a bouncer who was watching started to walk over and Johnny moved. She said he wasn't mean or threatening, just probably had a bad night and wanted credit for his fame.

He was there more the following weeks and was always well behaved and friendly.
