That season finale was incredible! Might be the most entertaining, most artful hour of television I've watched in years. Spoilers in white...
To kill off the most compelling character in the series (Jimmy) and make the viewer kind of hate the main character (Nucky) was ballsy as hell. I'm kinda surprised Nucky believed Eli ultimately. Jimmy came to Nucky, but Jimmy should have explained himself better in that moment. It was kind of cool though. His pre-death monologue was great.
I felt bad for him though - his mother was fucked up, he got pushed to turn against the father figure in his life when he really didn't want to, had to rush into a marriage b/c of pregnancy, and was clearly fucked up from the war. Very tragic figure.I understood the flashback the week before, but man that was hard to watch.
I couldnt find this thread yesterday when I posted about the finale. I too thought it was a great one, and I thought the whole season was really good.
Yeah she for sure is mother of the year.
I figured that no matter whether it was Eli or Jimmy that ordered the hit I figure Nucky had to know that Jimmy at least Ok'd it. Plus he had words with Nucky right before the hitman took his shot. So I can see how Nucky would never trust him again. Eli either, but he is blood I guess.
I wonder if Richard is going to take some revenge. He might understand Nucky taking care of Jimmy, though Jimmy was nice to him, but I would not be surprised to Manny Horvitz get a visit from him. Richard liked Jimmy's wife.
I don't know about anybody else but I am beyond fired up for season 3. Last season put this series in my personal number 1 spot. There are some other great ones (Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Mad Men, Breaking Bad), but this one has the best mix of action, acting, plotline/character development, and cinematography. Any chance a mod could change the title so it's just Boardwalk Empire rather than start a new thread?
