Arty Retardy with some choice comments about his time in LA:

Sounds similar to The Legend after he was traded but you have to earn your spot in any lineup. He did not do that the last few years and regressed.

Kreider landed on IR yesterday so the claim makes sense, he could get into their game against NJ tomorrow.

Curious how he is deployed and how he performs, Bernstein summed it up pretty well - one dimensional player, lack of compete and defensive game and good for 10-12 goals a season.
Honstly sounds a lot like this generation of kids. He thinks he deserves to play as opposed to earning it. After watching him play, I never saw a part of his game that I was impressed at other than his shot.

Is it really an issue with the Kings drafting or is it more to do with how they develop them? I dont know what to make of it? I cant think that they missed on all of the pics thay have had.

I was never impressed with his overall game. Heavy shot, sure but no grind especially being a big guy, lost board battles way too easily, lackadaisical attitude, lack of defensive awareness, not physical, no consiatent compete level.

I just don't feel sorry for the guy, I'm reading articles where they're saying he was limited to B3 minutes and that just isnt true. He was tried everywhere up and down the lineup his entire time in LA and just didn't grow or take advantage of that opportunity. I seriously can't fathom how Kingsters thought this dude would put up 30, the talent is simply not there.

I called him a left handed Frk long ago and that's basically what he is. The Kings reached on this pick and it burned them, it's quite a bummer Shane Pinto was off the board the pick before Kaliyev.

Something changed after Bowlby came on board, it's been 8 drafts and there's been more misses (Bjornfot, Kaliyev, etc) than hits or guys aren't progressing as expected (Buster).

I don't know if some philosophical change or what has occurred but the track record since 2017 really hasn't been good.

Actually, I do rememeber you calling a left Frk. I totally agree. Not just Kaliev, but you really want to pull for these kids. If they progress and do well it helps the club overall. It was painfull to watch him especially when he got the puck. He couldnt receive a pass unless it was to onetime a shot. His stick handling was atrocious. It would literally just come off of his stick. Best of luck in NYR. I wish they could have at least got a pick for him but he had absolutely no value. Too bad.

I think we all want prospects to do well, myself included. As you said it only helps the team. It's frustrating watching high picks like Buster or a guy like Kaliyev struggling because it then begs the question did the organization make the right pick? Crap like that sets franchises back for years if they miscalculated.

One thing under Bowlby I absolutely do not agree with is the marinating of prospects. These guys are all 5-6 years out and their development (if they do at all) does not coincide with where the team will be down the road. That's why I loved Dumbo, he essentially gave prospects 3 years to show promise or he shipped them out and a new group of draftees was brought in.

Bowlby slow cooks them to death and thus is forced to fill holes (Dunno, Fiala, etc) which drastically costs more either in assets, money or both. Then to compound things he prematurely hands out gold contracts (Petersen, to a degree Buster from what we've seen this season) and then has to pay even more later down the road to get out of the mess he created to start with.

Dumbo was a master at maximizing ELC/cheap contracts, identifying core pieces and moving out ones that weren't going to pan out. Blake should have learned a ton under him but clearly didn't.

From Elliott Friedman's 32 Thoughts:

13. Los Angeles would have moved Arthur Kaliyev last season for a mid-round pick but didn’t find anything. Unfortunately for the winger, he got injured in camp and the Kings’ surge removed any chance he had at fighting his way back in. It’s a good gamble for the Rangers.

Yikes. I've mentioned before getting a 3rd for him would have been some sort of asset recovery but to not even find a taker with a 4th and lower, just goes to show how much his stock plummeted.

He may be 23 or 24 or whatever but he is a straight up reclamation project at this point.
