He can't be sent to the AHL as he's not old enough, the only options available are sticking with the big club or back to his junior team in Halifax.

No, the period for claiming guys on waivers closed on Sunday so this was just a straight assignment to the AHL, but I guess Bryan Murray wasn't too happy about Mika's performance in training camp (basically said something to the effect of new guys came into camp and took his job and he did nothing to stop it).
