The Isles have to make a decision on both Okposo & Nielsen. Garth is loyal to his guys though. The question is how many years & how much do they want. Both are entering the final year of their contracts. So Garth has a little bit of time.

Back in 2008 the Islanders used a 3rd round pick on Russian forward Kirill Petrov. Apparently he's signed a 1 year ELC. He's spent the last 8 years in the KHL. I don't expect him to make the team. A 1 year deal means it's a win/win situation.

Calling on WAS/WilkesBarre/Syracuse fans:

Anyone remember a guy named Darcy Verot?

Darcy Verot hockey statistics and profile at hockeydb.com

His stats are pretty ridiculous. 6 foot, under 200 pounds but regularly racked up PIMs. Including one year in the KHL where he had 511 PIM in 43 games

Anyway, was talking to his daughter today. Did not want to say I never heard of her dad, she would probably kick the crap out of me.

Given that a slightly-above-average defenceman just got $5.5 mil/yr and it was considered a bargain, I think someone will take two players for $14 mil/yr for the next 3 seasons who just combined for 150 pts. Even if their production dips to the 100-120 range by the end of their contracts, they'll still have a couple good seasons on the right teams and for a team on the edge (Florida? Nashville?) or teams that may be going stale with the current crop (St. Louis? Detroit? Montreal?) they might be perfect fits.

I could very much see the Panthers needing to do that but maybe not wanting to. the Sedins would have gotten them in the playoffs last year.

the problem in all this discussion and the reason why everything here is just a moot point is the sedins have a no trade clause and i dont really see them giving up on the team like Ryan Kesler did :ohwell:

so it becomes a problem of timing ... you have to hope the young players step up and become the go to guys in the top 6 in the remaining time the sedins have here

Benning is going to need to be shrewd and make moves to get young and more skilled NOW ... hes been trying to do that by acquiring the "lost generation guys" ... 22 to 25 year olds

AND hes got to stop submarine-ing the plan by doing stupid deals like the Ryan Miller one (and sbisa ... and Dorsett (maybe) )

/ FUCK! lol
:pout:

going to be fun finishing 7 to 10 spots in the next few years isnt it. #CalgaryModel

How I spent the last couple of months by Jon Gillies:

1. Helped Providence to their first ever NCAA hockey championship
2. Signed a NHL entry level contract with the Calgary Flames
3. Bought a truck

Yeah, Pittsburgh could be for sale, wonder you would buy them, got 2 good building blocks in Crosby and Malkin but little else.

So, US youth hockey program hired a guy who was roundly criticised by both fans and media at his last job because of the way he handled youth?
